Nebraska women's golfer Michaela Vavrova fired a career-best three-round total of 217 (+1) on her way to the individual championship at Stampede at The Creek in Elkhorn, Neb., on Tuesday afternoon.

Vavrova, a sophomore from Bojnice, Slovakia, carded three solid rounds, including a 71 (-1) in Monday's second round before closing with an even-par 72 Tuesday to claim a four-stroke victory over Creighton's Eleanor Hudepohl (221).  North Dakota State's Leah Skaar took third (223), while NDSU's Catherine Monty finished fourth (224).

"I am proud of Miska for managing the course well this week," Nebraska Head Coach Lisa Johnson said. "This was a breakthrough win, which she can build off of heading into our final two events of the fall season."

Vavrova was consistent throughout the 54 holes of the two-day event on the Red Feather and Blackbird nines at Indian Creek Golf Course. She finished with seven birdies and eight bogeys while recording 39 pars on the 5,988-yard layout. She captured her first collegiate title while playing as an individual. Nebraska did not send a full team to the tournament, which was won by North Dakota State (899). Creighton finished second (908), while Weber State finished third (914). Omaha (926), Western Illinois (943) and Northern Iowa (964) rounded out the list of NCAA Division I women's golf teams at the event.

Husker freshman Lena Hassert tied for 29th with a three-round total of 242. Hassert's tournament included a collegiate career-best 75 (+3) in the second round. Redshirt freshman Andrea Velez tied for 32nd in the 54-player field with a 54-hole score of 245.

The Nebraska women's golf team will return to action next week at the Dale McNamara Invitational at the Golf Club of Oklahoma in Tulsa, Oct. 11-12.
