On the bye week
“I Went out to Cam (Jurgens) Thursday night and then went home Friday night. Watched Free State play Lawrence High. Saw some family. Saw some friends old coaches and what not. Came home Saturday and just hung out the rest of the weekend.”
On the mental and physical refresh
“Definitely both. It was a nice get away. A day or two is all I need. And then obviously back to the job site.”
On the energy from the team
“I definitely felt like that was a good amount of energy coming back to today in practice and last night we did have a team meeting. Guys felt like they wanted to be back and that is the best thing you can have coming off of a bye week.”
On Purdue
“I think we got a good jump on these guys. We have had a week plus to look at them. They have a really solid front seven. They jump from odd to even spacing from time to time. They have a couple of good edge rushers, and I am excited for the challenge.”
On Purdue defensive end George Karlaftis
“Just like the last couple of weeks it has been a good challenge. It is going to be a fight up front. Like I said I am excited for the challenge. I know Bryce (Benhart) is too.”
On the meeting on Sunday
“I think it is definitely important to get everyone on campus the day before practice starts up again just to be able to make sure everyone is ready to get going.”
On facing good edge rushers
“When you come to the Big Ten you come to play with the cream of the crop. That is why I wanted to come here. These guys that I have been facing all year are the cream of the crop. The Aidan Hutchinsons, all of those guys. They are all very talented people. Very talented players. It is just another opportunity to get better.”
On Purdue coming off games against Iowa and Wisconsin
“It might give us an edge. I am not sure. I guess we will find out Saturday. They had a good game against Iowa. They lost to Wisconsin. Those are two really good games for us to look at moving forward seeing what we can do with what both teams did against them.”
On making it to a bowl game
“It is definitely our main goal but right now we are focused on Purdue because you cannot go bowl eligible if you are not able to beat Purdue this week.”
On the Big Ten being unpredictable
“Illinois taking Penn State to what nine overtimes? That was insane. That was a pretty cool game to watch. I was not able to watch it, I was driving back. It is college football. It is the most exciting time of the year. You never know what unbeaten team is going to lose each week and you never know what unranked team is going to beat a ranked team, so you always have to stay on your toes with college football.”
On catching up physically
“I felt like I have been playing the best of my capability throughout the entire year. I definitely feel like this bye week has helped me get back to be 100 percent. I think it has helped everybody so it will only help us moving forward.”
