Turner Corcoran Quotes - 10-11-21

Turner Corcoran
Offensive Lineman

On playing both tackles in one game

“I thought it went fine. When Teddy (Prochazka) did go down, you know obviously we are feeling bad for him, but he is going to be all right in the end run. I thought it went all right. It is not like I have been playing right tackle for too long, where I have forgotten a few things on left. It did feel a little weird at first getting down and doing a left-handed stance, but I picked up with things right away.”

On learning each stance
“I kind of learned how to get down in a right-handed stance two weeks ago. That has been the process that whole week when I did move to right tackle was kind of figuring out how to feel my body in different positions from left tackle to right tackle.”

On moving positions
“Coach Austin right away said ‘hey get some kicks at left’ when Teddy did go down. I got a few kicks and it was kind of natural as it was.”

On improvement over the last few weeks
“Kind of realizing that we have not been playing to our potential. I think a lot of dudes saw that. Once we saw how good we can actually play especially against Northwestern with the amount of points we put up on the board we knew that we could compete against anyone in this conference, and I felt like we proved that the last few weeks. We have to be able to finish. There are still some things that we want to work on as a unit. Definitely some things I want to work on and get better at at practice to be able to be as good as I want to be.”

On offensive lineman Bryce Benhart
“I was so freaking proud of him. He is my roommate. He is one of my best friends. But obviously when his number was called he answered the door. He kicked that thing open. We had a sweet play to the right and he ended up getting his dude on the ground. He pancaked him. I looked up to the jumbotron and saw it and I was like ‘there you go Bryce’. I was really happy for him when I saw that.”

On what he talked to Bryce Benhart about the past few weeks
“We kind of just talked about you know there is going to be moments where we are back to playing with each other. We knew that going forward with there being any chance of anything happening. Someone getting hurt. Someone not playing well. Whatever it was. We scenarioed it all and we just said we were going to roll with it. It just what it is. It is football.”

On playing seven straight weeks
“It has been pretty exhausting. Last year it was kind of like that. I think we had eight or nine straight weeks no off break and then before that it was two or three months of fall camp. Going into this season we knew it was going to be a grind. We knew we were going to have eight straight games. It has been a grind. It has been one of those but we are really ready for this challenge next week for Minnesota.”

On the offensive linemen’s mentality
“It is what it is. If we need one over the other than that is what we are going to do. It is part of the offense. If we need to run the ball then we are going to run the ball. It is just the mindset. If we are up with four minutes left we need to chew the clock out. If we are down with two minutes left we need to air that thing out. We need to give Adrian (Martinez) enough time to throw the ball. That is just kind of how it schemes out to be.”

On being down at half against Michigan
“There was no concern from my end of things. I do not think there was a concern from anyone in the locker room because that game would not have turned out the way the it does if the defense did not believe in us. Because if the defense would not have believed in us, then the game would have gotten out of hand from our aspect of things. Defense held up their end of things. Offense got rolling a few times. Had a few scores. Ended up getting ahead of those guys. It turned out to be the game it was.”

On the expectation of getting it done against Michigan
“I definitely felt a different type of energy on the sideline than prior games. It did have a better energy that last few drives. It definitely felt like dudes were locked in, ready for their assignment. We did not get too hot-headed when we were down, and we did not get too excited when we were up. I thought a lot of the guys that were playing were even-keeled with what was going on even though the chaos of 90,000 fans screaming after you go up against No. 9 Michigan in the fourth quarter. I thought we handled the adversity pretty well though.”

On challenges against Minnesota
“I really do not think there are any mental challenges ahead of us. We have an assignment right in front of us. We have to go do it. We have to go 1-0 this coming week. We have to be able to go out and win this game to be able to put ourselves in a good spot moving forward with these next four games after this week.”

On the bye week
“I do not think anyone is focused on the bye week right now. I think we are all focused on Minnesota.”

On Aidan Hutchinson (Michigan)
“He is a hell of a player. I am going to say it like it is. He is a quick dude. I thought we had a good game plan as tackles with funneling him up field rather than letting him get inside and move inside because that is where most of his pressure and sacks came from. That was kind of the message all week was to stay underneath those guys. You do not want those guys to work up field and have Adrian step up into the pocket and have him be the athlete that he is.”

On Minnesota’s defensive end
“He definitely is. I watched a little bit of him. He is a stud like all of these dudes in the Big Ten are. You are not getting an off week with anyone. He is very similar to the way Hutchinson and No. 55 played. I am looking forward to the challenge again.”

On Nebraska running back Rahmir Johnson
“I am super proud of that kid. He is running his tail off. He is playing with every bit of confidence that he has. I think that we as an offensive unit are confident in the way he is playing. He is not afraid to run it between the tackles and he is not afraid put it out on the edge.”

On quarterback Adrian Martinez
“Typically as a quarterback you do not find them to be very tough people. But he is one tough son of a b****, if I am being straight forward. He is the heart and soul of that offense. He is the heart and soul of this team. I believe he is the guy to do the job for this offense. He is a fantastic guy. He is a fantastic leader. Whenever there is  a little bit of blame he is going to take it on the chin because that is who he is. He is a man. He is going to take it.”
