Samori Toure Quotes - 10-11-21

Samori Toure
Wide Receiver

On Nebraska's second half offensive play in Michigan game
“There are a lot of good things that we did in the second half. We got a lot of momentum as an offense. We hit a lot of big plays and more important than anything, we just kept the ball moving. That is all it is. That is all it comes down to, getting first downs, getting to the sticks, and if that is something we can consistently do, I like our chances moving forward this season.”

On resetting after tough losses
“I would say most of us are over it by Monday after we watch the film, but definitely after the game Saturday and Sunday is kind of tough not to think about it. What we could have done different in order to win the game, but that is just part of the game. You just have to look at it yourself and be critical and see what you can do better, but once Monday comes around is on to the next opponent.”

On the importance of getting wins in his lone season at Nebraska
“That is something that is really important to me. Like you said, this is my only year here, but at the end of the day this is my team and it feels like I have been here longer than I have. I want to get some wins, and I feel like we are right there. You have heard everybody say we’re really close, a few plays away from being a really good team. It gets frustrating, but it is also promising and we are trying to set a foundation here, and I think that is something that we can do with five games left.”

On the season so far compared to his expectations
“I was hoping, because me only having a year, there is really no option but to get in the mix right away and I feel like that is one of the reasons I came to this program, because I had the opportunity and I feel like I am the type of player that can be thrown into any system and succeed. I feel like it is working out so far.”

On making progress in two-minute situations
“I think we are a really good two-minute team. I feel like we have shown that throughout the year. There has been multiple games where, whether it is right before halftime or at the end of the game and two minutes where we are moving the ball and everyone is aware of the situation. That has just come from practice. That is something we work on all the time, and I see it translating really well.”

On the first play of the last two-minute drive
“When all you need is a field goal and you get 25 yards on the first play, you've got to like that you got to like those odds. Unfortunately we could not get it done, but it is something we are going to have to work on.”

On Michigan’s defense
“With Michigan it is really what you see on film is what you are going to get. Obviously they are a great defense, a lot of athletes, great front seven, great D-line. We knew all that coming into the game, and they just proved to be the talented defense that we saw on film.”

On younger players suiting up
“I see a lot of potential with our freshmen receivers. They were really happy to suit up even though they kind of figured they were not going to play, just being in the pads, being in the environment, getting to see that they loved it. They had a great time but I see a lot of potential within them. At the end of the day, they are still freshmen right now. They are still learning how to play fast, but I feel like with enough time they are going to be really talented, and you guys are going to like what you see from them.”

On quarterback Adrian Martinez
“I see a leader. I see someone who has complete control of this team and this offense, and he is a guy that people look to and he never disappoints when it comes to that. He is the quarterback at Nebraska. He gets a lot of criticism. and I do not think I have seen anyone deal with criticism the way he does. He does not let it get to him. He takes the good with the bad, and he is always moving forward, and that is something that I think a lot of people can learn from.”
