On the atmosphere of Nebraska’s program
“It most definitely has been a positive one especially with this game coming up. We had momentum at the last game and we did what we were supposed to do and practice was great today. That’s the way that we should start the week off. After that win we shouldn’t dive back down and restart but we should keep that momentum going and get ready for this weekend because it's a big game.”
On the effect of the home field advantage
“It’s different. Especially playing at Nebraska. It's not like playing anywhere else honestly and I’ve visited many places throughout recruitment but there really is no place like Nebraska especially night games when you get a packed stadium every game is real.”
On the teams overall physical improvement
“We’ve come a long way. I don't know if you guys remember but back when we played during my freshman year, one of the linebackers on the team spoke out and said we weren't prepared. We have to come prepared this time, we don't need any ifs ands or buts about it. We need to come out and play our best football. We are more physical than we ever were on offense and defense. We have wide receivers blocking downfield, and for any of our running backs like Martinez just finishing plays is important. We have people flying from sideline to sideline on defense so it is looking great.”
On the need of having a mindset of being bigger and stronger
“Almost definitely. We always had Coach Duvall working us out but as far as the mentality that's the biggest thing with everybody putting their heads together and working together. Part of the physical part is eight lifting and based on strength.”
On the comments of a Michigan player
“I wouldn’t say he was right but we did not put our best foot forward and we plan to change that.”
On Michigan running the ball on defensive
“My plan is that I have to tackle around and make a hit the right way and not get kicked out of the game for a crazy hit here and there. Just playing good football and leveraging tackling and playing with my teammates not just making a big play here and there. Leverage tackle and using my teammates and we are running to the football.”
On teammate Marques Buford Jr</strong>
“I most definitely joke around about it like he’s my son because I feel like he plays like I do. He’s very physical and he's smart and he came in with the right attitude. I took him under my wing when he first got here. I just got him a playbook and told him to look over it and he was going over it with the coaches the next day. I believe when he gets his feet wet a little bit more then he’ll be ready but that young guy is something else.”
On how the season has progressed from the perspective of a team leader
“I’ve learned a lot I can say. Especially from being the leader of this team now. I’ve been a captain and it means a lot and you get looked at a lot for different things that you may not have been looked at before and you have to carry yourself a lot differently. I’ll say I don't carry myself differently because I’ve always had that leader mentality but now I focus a lot more on my technique now and focusing on doing my job to the best of my abilities. I say that a lot in my interview because that's what it really is. If you say miscue on defense it's probably just one thing that goes wrong. We just come back and face it and you don't see it again. So I just try to work on that which helps out me and my teammates.”
On the opportunity of playing another BIG10 team
“It was great, especially playing at home. It’s not the first team that we’ve played that was ranked. There is a lot of hype around the game but we have to stay level headed and get ready to play football because this is Big Ten play now.”
