On defensive line against Michigan State
“Those guys have done just an amazing job all year. Saturday they just went above and beyond like they usually do. Whenever we are doing inside backs and linebackers are doing well it is always a reflection that they are doing the dirty work. Might not always get the stats and the tackles but they are really the true piece of it. It always starts up front.”
On inside linebackers
“With Coach Rudd routine is something he always talks about. That is something that we really took pride in. Every week is the same. Every day is the same. We do this this and this. Nothing changes not matter if you are feeling good or bad. You always have to stick to the routine no matter what. It helps a lot. When you build a routine it is really easy and useful to stack days.”
On balancing team loss with defensive success
“At the end of the day you always look in the mirror and see what you can control. We are not here to point fingers or anything like that. At the end of the day it is about winning and losing so we didn’t do everything we could do as a defense and we have to keep improving as well to keep getting better week by week.”
On Garrett Nelson
“From the first day we early enrolled we roomed together. The first day we moved in I think it was a Friday night or Saturday and it was 9 o’clock at night and our parents were leaving. He was like ‘hey you want to go lift?’. And I was like ‘yeah. What do you mean. Yeah sure.’ So we tried to get in the weight room and we could not get in. We were young freshman we didn’t know what was going on really. We just thought we had access but Garrett is as much of a football guy as you can get so he loves the game and his passion is something that rubs off on everyone.”
On the Nebraska classmates in his recruiting class
“I love those guys so much. I think we have had a bond ever since recruiting and high school and stuff. We are similar like-minded guys so it is super easy to get along and go to work with those guys every day.”
On Northwestern
“Every year they are a super disciplined team. They are going to have good skilled players. Good offensive line. So it is going to be about knowing our fits and continuing to improve as a defense and play gap sound.”
