On Oklahoma
“I think it is really cool opportunity for us to spark that rivalry back dating back to the Big 12. Everyone knows the big time rivalry games like Ohio State Michigan and Alabama Auburn and then there is Nebraska Oklahoma. In my opinion it is right up there with those big time rivalries. You know those two programs would always compete back whenever we were competing together in the Big 12 and it is something we look forward to.”
On his performance so far this season
“I am not satisfied with how I have been playing. I need to tighten up that is for sure. There are things I always need to work on. I just need to get better from my own perspective.”
On the tradition of the Oklahoma game
“(Coach Frost) briefly touched on it this morning but I am sure as the week goes on he is definitely going to speak on it some more. He said that these guys are fast. We are going to have to play faster. That is kind of the message going into things. That is how we are going to be able to compete against these guys. These guys have a talented group. They have won down in the Big 12 for a long time and they have a formula and it works for them.”
On being recruited by Oklahoma
“Yeah those three schools (Oklahoma, Nebraska, Ohio State) were high up on my list whenever recruiting was going on. It kind of just came down to what I felt was best for myself.”
On why he is not satisfied with his play
“Like this last game for instance I did a little bit better job in the pass game. I still overset a couple of times on the fly technique but there are things that I am just not satisfied with with how I have been playing. Like in the spring I was playing a lot better. Obviously rolling off an injury it is not quite the same but I just need to get back to that level of play I was playing at in the spring.”
On the base run plays
“Like I said I am not satisfied with how the offensive line is playing. And none of us are. It is not just me. It is not just Coach (Greg) Austin. It is all of us. We are a unit and we all think and feel like the same thing all of the time. We know we things are supposed to hit and they were not hitting the way we were wanting them to. We were not blocking it the way we should have and like we know how to do. We just need to do a better job.”
On Teddy Prochazka
“He is doing a great job. He is picking up the offense really well I think. He came in for a goal line play I think in the second or third quarter. He was off on the right side and I think he did a good job there. And then he came in in the fourth quarter for me when we got a decent lead and his first play in we scored both times. I think he is learning really well and that is just the best thing he can do. Learn the offense.”
On the redshirt four game rule
“I think it is huge. I think it is an awesome opportunity that the NCAA was allowed to pass for these freshmen. For me last year COVID obviously. That was a free year. If COVID was not a thing I am sure I would have been able to get in at least three or four games to be able to keep that redshirt. I think like I said it is a great opportunity for people to make the transition from high school to college. It is just an amazing opportunity for young kids to get playing time. It is definitely hard being able to not play because that is all you have been doing your whole life. You have been the guy throughout high school and then when you get to college and they tell you you are going to have to sit out a year it sucks. It is just how it is. The NCAA came and passed that rule and it has been pretty cool.”
