Malleck, Badura Lead Huskers at Duke

Nebraskans Reed Malleck and Caleb Badura led the Huskers individually as the men's golf team finished 12th in a strong 14-team field at the Rod Myers/Duke Invitational Sunday in Durham, N.C.

Malleck (York, Neb.), who made his NU lineup debut, closed a solid tournament showing with a three-round total of 223 (+7) that included a final-round 78 on Sunday. He tied for 41st individually after carding rounds of 71 (-1) and 75 on Saturday.

Badura (Aurora, Neb.), posted Nebraska's best individual round on Sunday with a 75 (+3) on the par 72, 7,154-yard layout of the Duke University Golf Club. The senior tied for 45th with a three-round total of 224 (+8), including a 71 (-1) in Saturday's second round. 

Seniors Tom Westenberger and Mark Foelbaek added rounds of 78 on Sunday to complete Nebraska's final-round team total of 309. The Huskers finished with a three-round score of 897. Westenberger (Wuppertal, Germany) tied for 53rd at 226, while Foelbaek tied for 72nd (234). 

Gentry Scheve (Emporia, Kan.) rounded out the Husker contingent in a tie for 58th at 227, following a final-round 81. 

North Carolina's Ryan Gerard took medalist honors with a 54-hole score of 201 (-15) to lead the Tar Heels to the team title at 837 (-27). North Carolina State took second, three shots behind UNC, while the hosts from Duke finished third at 856 (-8).

Nebraska return to action at the Lobo Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M., on Sept. 24-25.
