Lincoln – A trio of Nebraska bowlers were honored this week, as the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) unveiled its 2020-2021 NTCA All-Academic scholar athletes.
Alexis Buchert, Amara Smith Speights and Cassidy Ray were recognized for posting a cumulative GPA of 3.40 or better during the 2020-21 academic year. It marks the fourth appearance for Ray, a criminology and criminal justice major, and the first for both Buchert (mathematics education) and Smith-Spreights (psychology/ethic studies).
Ray also was named a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar this week for posting a 3.70 GPA during the last academic year, while Smith-Spreights was also recognized earlier this spring as an Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Award recipient.
The Husker bowling program was recognized by the NTCA for posting a 3.209 team GPA en route to the 2021 NCAA title. NU was one of 59 programs nationally with at least a 3.20 team GPA in 2020-21.
