The Nebraska track and field team put in a full day at the B1G North Florida Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla., on Friday.
On the first day of the meet, Madison Yerigan was the top collegiate finisher in the high jump. She cleared 5-7 3/4 (1.72m) and was perfect at every bar through that height.
Lishanna Ilves and Ieva Turke started their outdoor seasons with solid long jumps. Ilves went 20-5 1/4 (6.23m), while Turke jumped 20-3 (6.17m). They finished second and third, respectively, in the invitational section.
Papay Glaywulu was the top long jumper in the open competition, setting an outdoor personal best of 24-0 1/4 (7.32m). He led five Husker men who made the finals. Luke Russell was third at 23-7 1/4 (7.19m), Alexander Thompson was fourth at 23-6 3/4 (7.18m), Matthias Algarin was eighth at 23-1 3/4 (7.05m), and Terrol Wilson was ninth at 22-10 3/4 (6.98m).
Micaylon Moore placed fifth for the Huskers in the men's long jump invite, leaping 23-11 1/2 (7.30m) on his final attempt. Michael Hoffer led the Huskers in the men's high jump with a clearance of 6-7 (2.01m) to finish fifth. Zionn Pearson competed in the women's open long jump and took fifth place at 19-3 1/4 (5.87m).
Kevin Shubert took sixth place in the men's shot put invitational with a throw of 57-0 1/4 (17.38m). In the women's open shot put, Kristina Insingo was the third-best finisher at 51-5 3/4 (15.69m). Marika Spencer also made the finals and finished eighth at 46-8 (14.22m). Maddie Harris finished in eighth place in the women's open hammer throw at 162-4 (49.49m).
On the track, Judi Jones finished in fourth place in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:24.16, which was a new personal best by 10 seconds. Cory Berg posted a time of 53.20 in the 400-meter hurdles to finish in fifth place in the invitational race. Three Husker men advanced to the 110-meter hurdles final on Saturday. Joey Daniels (13.79) had the third-fastest qualifying time. Luke Siedhoff (13.85) was fourth, and Darius Luff (13.94) was sixth. Kerrigan Myers qualified for the women's 100-meter hurdles final with a time of 14.07.
The second day of the B1G North Florida Invitational begins with the men's discus at 7:30 a.m. (CT) on Saturday. The rest of the meet gets underway at 11 a.m. (CT).
