The No. 3 Nebraska men's gymnastics team is set to compete at the NCAA Championship Finals today Saturday, April 17 at 7:00 p.m. CT. The Championship will take place in Minneapolis, Minnesota at the Maturi Pavillion.
Last Time Out
NU is coming off a big first round performance finishing with a 408.623, claiming the No. 1 spot in Session I of the qualifiers. This marks the first time since 2000 that the Huskers have outscored Oklahoma.
Oklahoma, finishing with a 406.190, and Illinois, finishing with a 400.721, both qualified for Finals as well during Session I of the Qualifier round.
Scouting the Competition
The Huskers are meeting No. 1 Stanford for the first time today. Stanford is coming off a season-high team score of 413.855.
No. 2 Michigan came into the weekend unbeaten until yesterday when the Wolverines posted a 411.455, finishing in second. The Huskers have faced the Wolverines twice this season, falling to Michigan both times.
No. 4 Oklahoma also came into the weekend unbeaten with seven wins and one tie (vs. Stanford). Oklahoma finished in the second spot with a 406.190.
No. 5 Minnesota earned a spot in the Finals after posting a 404.623. The Gophers were led by senior Shane Wiskus who notched a score of 86.46 in the all-around competition.
No. 6 Illinois is the last team to qualify for Finals after finishing with a 400.721. The Huskers have met the Fighting Illini in competition twice, losing the first and winning the second meeting.
