Lincoln, Neb. -- The Nebraska men's tennis team (0-6, 0-6 Big Ten) fell just short to the No. 47 Minnesota Gophers (3-3, 3-3 Big Ten), 2-5 on Friday evening at the Dillon Tennis Center.
In doubles competition, junior Patrick Cacciatore and sophomore Shunya Maruyama won their matchup against Kaleb Dobbs/Daniel Martin in the No. 3 spot, 6-2. Juniors William Gleason and Victor Moreno Lozano fell short to Jackson Allen/Sebastian Vile, 1-6, at the No. 2 spot. In the deciding No. 1 matchup, Minnesota's Siim Troost/Vlad Lobak outlasted sophomore Albert Sprlak-Puk and junior Brandon Perez, 4-6, winning the doubles point.
To start off singles play, Maruyama continued his successful day with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Minnesota's Sebastian Vile, at No. 4. Also getting his second win of the day, Cacciatore beat Daniel Martin at No. 6, 6-4, 6-4. At No. 2, Perez dropped a tough 5-7, 2-6 contest to Vlad Lobak. Battling at No.5, Gleason fell in a three-set match against Siim Troost, 6-4, 5-7, 1-6. Clinching the overall match win for Minnesota was Jackson Allen outlasting Moreno in a three-set win, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4. Finishing up singles play at No. 3, Sprlak-Puk dropped a three-set match to Dylan Heap, 6-7, 6-4, 4-6.
Up next, the Huskers will stay at home and matchup with Wisconsin on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. CT at the Dillon Tennis Center in Lincoln.
