Huskers Rebound with Win Over No. 12 NC State

Murray, Ky. – No. 8 Nebraska closed the weekend with another strong performance, downing NC State, 4,676-4,694, Sunday afternoon.
 
The Huskers, who improved to 4-2 on the season, posted their third straight score of at least 4,690 which will boost their hopes of reaching the NCAA qualifier next month.  Nebraska Rifle Coach Rachel Martin believes the team needs to continue to improve to reach some of the goals the program has set for this season.
 
"I'm very happy to see our team become consistent over the past couple of weeks," Martin said. "That being said, we are underperforming and are capable of breaking 4,700. We are sitting in a good place going into NCAA Qualifiers, but to make the podium at NCAAs we need to show more endurance and mental toughness."
 
Nebraska took four of the top six spots in the smallbore, outdistancing the Wolfpack, 2,329-2,315. Emily Cheramie  and Elena Flake took the top two spots in the event with identical scores of 585. Cecelia Ossi (580) and Madelynn Erickson (579) rounded out the Huskers' scoring lineup in the event, while Kinga Aletto scored a 565 to finish 11th.

The Huskers earned two of the top three spots in the air rife to edge NC State, 2,365-2,361, in the event. Cheramie earned her second top-two finish of the day as she finished second with a score of 594, while Erickson placed third at 593.  Ossi (590, fifth), Flake (588,seventh) and Aletto (584, 10th) rounded out the Huskers' squad against the Wolfpack.
 
"It has been a busy month as we have had six matches already, but it has really brought our athletes together as a team," Martin said at the end of the stretch that has seen NU compete six times over the last 16 days. "They understand how to best support one another which is something we were lacking as a team last year."
 
The Huskers will be off next week and return to action on Saturday, Feb. 6, when the Huskers host Akron beginning at 8 a.m.
