Six Soccer Players Named Big Ten Distinguished Scholars

The Nebraska soccer team produced six Big Ten Distinguished Scholars, as the conference announced its honorees on Wednesday.

Grace Brown and Natalie Cooke each earned the accolade, which is based upon grade-point average from the previous academic year only, for the second time.

Brown, a senior majoring in child, youth and family studies, is also a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and five-time member of the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll. Cooke, a junior studying nutrition and health sciences, is also a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and five-time honor roll member.

Dakota Chan, Adriana Maldonado, Hannah Young and Ashley Zugay each claimed Big Ten Distinguished Scholar status for the first time. All four student-athletes received Academic All-Big Ten honors in 2019, as the soccer team produced a program-best 18 selections.

To be eligible for Big Ten Distinguished Scholar selection, student-athletes must be a recipient of Academic All-Big Ten recognition in the previous academic year, must have been enrolled full-time at the institution for the entire previous academic year and earned a minimum GPA of 3.70 or better during the previous academic year.
