Nebraska's Rich Bowl History

Nebraska boasts one of the richest bowl game traditions in the history of college football. The Huskers appeared in their first bowl game at the 1941 Rose Bowl. The Huskers appeared in an NCAA-record 35 consecutive bowl games from 1969 to 2003.

Following an appearnce in the 2016 Music City Bowl, Nebraska owns a 26-26 all-time record in bowl games. The Huskers have appeared in 16 different bowl games in school history, including 29 appearances in what were previously considered BCS bowl games (Fiesta, Sugar, Rose, Orange). Nebraska has played in 13 bowl games where either the Huskers or their opponent were crowned national champions, including national-title clinching wins for Nebraska in the 1971, 1972, 1995 and 1998 Orange Bowls and the 1996 Fiesta Bowl.

Nebraska participated in its 50th all-time bowl game with its appearance in the TaxSlayer.com Gator Bowl on Jan. 1, 2014. Nebraska joined Alabama (66) and Texas (53) as the only schools to play in 50 bowl games in school history, Georgia and Tennessee joined the group in 2014. The Huskers have played in the postseason in 46 of the past 48 seasons, including an NCAA-record 35 straight years from 1969 to 2003. NU's 35 consecutive bowls began with a 45-6 win over Georgia in the 1969 Sun Bowl, and ended in 2004. The Huskers have won 11 of 20 bowl games since the 1994 season.
