Lincoln, Neb. - The Nebraska men's gymnastics team provided Penn State with their first loss of the season after coming back from a seven-point deficit. The Huskers came from behind to take the lead heading into the final rotation and then finished with a season-high performance on high bar.
Nebraska defeated Penn State 406.950 to 403.200 to move to 7-2 (2-1 Big Ten) on the season. Penn State is now 10-1 (1-1 Big Ten).
NU was led by Charlie Giles and Evan Hymanson who both claimed individual event titles. Giles earned the vault title after notching a 14.80, a career-high, while Hymanson claimed the parallel bars title after scoring a 14.40. Evan Kriley claimed his second all-around title of the year with a score of 80.35.
Rotation One
The Nebraska men's gymnastics team started the night off on floor with a team score of 68.65. The Huskers were led by Charlie Giles and Zach Peters who both had career-high scores, 14.45 and 14.40 respectively. Dylan Young followed with a score of 13.85 for his first time competing on floor as a Husker. Griffin Kehler notched a 13.75 while Kenji Tamane finished with a 12.50. Evan Kriley, who is competing in the all-around, scored a 13.75.
Penn State started on pommel horse, where they are ranked No. 1 this season. They finished the rotation with a team score of 66.45 and was led by senior Stephen Nedoroscik who notched a 14.65.
Rotation Two
The Huskers moved to pommel horse where they were led by Evan Kriley who notched a 13.70. Charlie Giles followed closely with a score of 13.50 while Cooper Giles and Mitch Tyndall both had a score of 13.10. Noah Urwiler rounded out the rotation with a score of 11.55. Nebraska finished with a team score of 64.95.
The Nittany Lions had their highest floor score of the season with a team score of 14.65. Kaleb Booth led Penn State with a score of 14.65.
Penn State leads the meet 137.500-133.900 heading into the third rotation.
Rotation Three
NU competed on rings for the third rotation where they finished with a team score of 66.20. The Huskers were led by Kenji Tamane who notched a career-high score of 14.25. Evan Hymanson followed with a score of 13.45 while Jonathan Scripnick finished with a 13.35. Dylan Young earned a 12.75 score. Mitch Tyndall rounded out the team score with a 12.40. Evan Kriley, competing in the all-around, scored a 13.10.
PSU earned a team score of 70.150 on vault. The Nittany Lions were led by Brennan Pantazis who finished with a score of 14.35.
Rotation Four
Nebraska continued to vault where they had a team score of 71.15. The Huskers were led by Charlie Giles who had a career-high score of 14.80. Evan Kriley followed closely with a score of 14.40. Kenji Tamane, competing on vault for his first time as a Husker, notched a 14.15. Zach Peters and Dylan Young rounded out the rotation both scoring a 13.90.
Penn State competed on rings for their fourth rotation. The team finished with a score of 68.00 while Isaac Hammet led the Nittany Lions with an individual score of 14.60.
Rotation Five
Evan Hymanson led the Huskers on parallel bars with a score of 14.40, matching his career-high. Griffin Kehler notched a 13.95 while Jonathan Scripnick finished with a score of 13.90. Dillan King followed with a score of 13.20, and Dylan LeClair rounded out the rotation with a score of 12.80. Evan Kriley, competing in the all-around, scored a 12.20. The Huskers finished with a team score of 68.25.
Sam Zakutney led the Nittany Lions on high bar with a score of 14.10. Penn State finished with a team score of 63.60.
The Huskers lead 339.700-339.450 going into the final rotation.
Rotation Six
The Huskers had an impressive final rotation finishing with a team score of 67.25, their highest of the season. NU was led by Dillan King who notched a career-high score of 14.00. Griffin Kehler followed closely with a score of 13.70 while Evan Hymanson finished with a score of 13.50. Evan Kriley earned a 13.10 while Sam Phillips finished with a score of 12.95.
The Nittany Lions finished on parallel bars with a team score of 63.75. Penn State was led by Sam Zakutney who earned a 13.60.
