On the performances of young defensive backs Myles Farmer and Quinton Newsome at Northwestern
“I think they did pretty good honestly. I think I can't ask for nothing more out of them, than what they did.”

On the performance of the defense, specifically tackling in the second half
“I think we’ve got to go on the same mentality that we have in the first half, and knowing how to finish the game and how to keep tackling and keep building on what we did in the first half.”

On Deontai Williams and Cam Taylor-Britt handling sitting out the first half and then being able to hit the ground running in the second half
“How they handled it was pretty well. They were on the sideline during the first half congratulating guys and being involved into the game, and when they got in the second half, for anybody just to hop in the second half after not playing the whole first half, you’ve got to get a rhythm first off, so it was for them still football at the end of the day, so they’ve got to go out there and do what they can do.”

On improving Nebraska’s third-down defense through the first two games
“Going into this game we had talked about three-and-outs, so that was the main focus on three-and-outs and turnovers because we didn’t do too many of those things during the first game. So that was the main focus coming into this game, and wanting us to just keep getting better and better, and it was bringing us closer and closer, and we wanted to get more three-and-outs and more turnovers during the whole game.”

On his message as a veteran leader to Nebraska’s younger guys
“As men, we’ve got to keep our heads up and keep on evolving. We can never look down ourselves or stoop down to the opponent level. So we’ve got to keep working, we’ve got to keep going. We’ve got five more weeks left, so we can't put our heads down and go half speed or anything at practice
or anything, so we’ve got to keep working because at the end of the day, we’ve still got games to win. We shouldn't want to lose the rest of the season.”

On the importance of the Penn State game in bouncing back after two losses
“I think it's very important to come out here, and have somebody come into our home and show people what we can do, because they’ve got something to prove just as well as we do. So it should be a good game, a good physical game. We’ll try to come out with a win.”

On the defense when Northwestern had scoring drives compared to the defense when they shut down Northwestern drives
“On the drives and plays where they did have some success it was more of our own problems that we created that we’ve got to fix during the film room. So it wasn’t what they did, it was problems that were on the defense.”

On Memorial Stadium being empty this weekend
“We practice in the stadium, so it shouldn’t be any different from the practice. Locking in, when you’re playing the game you won't even worry about the stands. If you worry about the stands, you are worrying about the wrong thing. Having a home game this week should bring a lot more guys into the game, more involved and more focused on trying to get a win.”
