On student-athletes across the country having Election Day off
“It’s a great opportunity for people to have their voices be heard and cast their vote for whoever they think is the best candidate.”
On how the team navigated this past week
“Honestly with how crazy this year is right now and everything going on, it's just day by day. Just continue to work to understand the game plan that's in front of us and just be a better person and better player than who you were yesterday.”
On his impression of Northwestern’s front seven and the linebackers
“I mean just like everyone we know that they have a very stout, very strong run defense. Their linebackers are aggressive guys and we just look forward to the challenge. We know it's going to be a kind of inch-by-inch type of game and we always look forward to those types of games. Just kind of man-to-man, who's going to be more disciplined, who's going to win these battles each play.”
On how this challenge compares to the challenges faced against Ohio State
“I’d say it’s similar. I’d say they are a little bit more of a power-based type of defense. They are going to meet you and just overpower you which is going to be a fun challenge.”
On the improvements he would like to see in this week’s game
“Just staying on our blocks, continuing to get a good push and giving that quarterback as much time as possible. I think we had a couple of lapses and I think we've done a good job of striding to improve where we needed to and I’m looking forward to seeing those improvements.”
On what he did on Saturday with the game being canceled
“Just watched a lot of football. Like I said earlier, it's just a crazy year. You really don't know what's going to happen tomorrow. So, just got to take today, do all you can improve as much as you can and then whatever happens, just take it as a learning experience. Whether you have to improve on the mental aspect of the game or the physical, just find a way to get better.”
On what he says to teammates who are struggling with the uncertainty of the season
“I just remind them this is kind of a weird year. I mean this isn't a normal year. No one knows what's going to happen, I just kind of remind them it is what it is. If they cancel, if they come back and they let us play, it doesn't matter. If you continue to get better and continue to improve on your game, that's all that matters. Just keep striving to be a better player.”
On his performance in the Ohio State game
“I think I did alright. I just have to get used to how fast the actual contact happens. There's a little bit of a speed change in the essence of how fast contact gets to you. I just have to get ready and get used to that quickness of how fast you're going to be on top of someone and how fast you're going to just be ready for a change of direction. I'm looking forward to it. I always enjoy these types of challenges. I learned a little bit from it and I'm hoping to improve from it.”
