On how he thinks he and the rest of the defensive line played in the first game this season
“My performance, I feel like it could have been better. One thing that we kind of focused on was like pretty much stopping the run and everything in the rotation as far as that goes. I'm pretty sure Coach Tuioti did a pretty good job of keeping everybody fresh and keeping everybody moving and basically keeping everybody healthy. So rotating Ben Stille, Ty Robinson, Casey Rodgers, me, Deontre Thomas, Keem Green, and everybody. Just keeping us fresh and ready to go.”
On how much pride the defensive line takes in stopping the run
“I take a lot of pride in that because one thing at the nose tackle spot, the defense is going to go as far as the nose goes. That's all I can say really. For me to be able to pretty much hold it down in the middle, I got to be able to keep everybody as one so we can basically stop the run and basically keep everybody on the same page of just being relentless to the ball.”
On the silver lining of last week’s game being cancelled
“We adjusted pretty well throughout this week. Even though we found out we weren’t playing on Wednesday or Thursday. We kind of adjusted pretty well. We finished off the week practicing and everything. So we are just getting ready for Northwestern. It’s going to be a good team that we are facing.”
On how Northwestern quarterback Peyton Ramsey has progressed and the threat he possesses
“Peyton Ramsey, he's always been a good quarterback. I feel like he goes to his check downs and if he doesn’t see anything open, we got to just make sure we squeeze the pocket because you know he's going to get out of the pocket and he's going to run. That's one thing we’ve been focusing on really, pretty much collapsing the pocket and just put pressure on the quarterbacks.”
On his nickname the team has given him
“Like I said, my freshman year when I came in, it’s just always been a nickname that they gave me.”
