Pre Wisconsin
Press Conference Video
On Nebraska’s defensive line play at Ohio State and progress that needs to be made with the upcoming matchup against Wisconsin
“I think run-game wise, we were pretty solid up front, interiorly especially. We still have a few things technique-wise, a few things just fitting the scheme-wise that we’ve got to get better at. Pass-rush wise, we’ve definitely got to get some more production there. They’re running a lot of play action, but definitely need to get a little more push there.”
On Nebraska’s defensive line rotation and working in new players for the first time
“The game actually went pretty slow with all the TV timeouts and everything, so it wasn't a big deal. The rotation and everything. I was proud of those guys getting their feet wet. Really a lot of their first real game action of any sort of extent there. It was good for them to get their feet wet and they're ready to build on their performance.”
On playing the interior defensive line rather than end
“I'd rather rush from the inside. We like to have outside backers rushing outside. It just works out a lot better for us.”
On playing in Memorial Stadium with no fans and what it will be like
“It’s definitely going to be different. I'm sure it will be really similar to what it was like in Ohio. Communication on defense is a helluva lot easier when you don’t have 90,000 screaming at you, so that's honestly the biggest difference I think. Otherwise we’ve just got to do a good job of bringing our own energy.”
On whether the program took a step forward Saturday at Ohio State, despite the final score
“The scoreboard is what it was, and that's the ultimate indicator of how the game went. So I mean a loss by 30 isn't necessarily a step in the direction we're looking for.”
On what Nebraska’s defense is looking for heading into the Wisconsin game
“We’ve just got to have guys fitting everything right, playing aggressive, attacking everything on the defense. I think it is a lot of the things like flying to the ball. That is what will take care of most.”
On stopping Wisconsin’s control of the series
“It's always been a good game with them. We’re looking forward to playing them. They're good up front and their skill positions as well, so it’s always good to go to battle with them, and I'm looking forward to it.”
On making a performance jump from week one at Ohio State to week two against Wisconsin
"It's just the details of the defense with six days for us to work on the details of the defense and just be able to fit those as well as we can up front and on the back end. You know, it's really the only gain you're going to fix over these next six days.”
