On his thoughts on being named one of five captains and what that means to him
“It's an incredible honor. Whenever you have an award that's based on your teammates voting, it really speaks home and really speaks to who you are and who the team thinks you are, and so that's an incredible honor. I'm blessed to be in the position I am. I didn't expect for it to happen. I was sitting there and coach said that we're going to have five captains this year and I said, ‘oh OK’, he said three on the offensive side and I said ‘oh OK’. And then he said my name and a bunch of emotions rushed in my head. It was great to see guys congratulate me. I love this team, and I'm going to continue to work for them.

On the team’s mindset now that it’s game week after the uncertainty that existed for awhile
“Yeah, I know it's been tough. I said before the uncertainty is the toughest part. Not knowing what the next step is. But since we got the season back you can tell there is a change in mentality and after hitting each other for countless months, we're ready to hit somebody else, and we're excited to play. We had a great practice today, and I'm excited for this weekend and I’m excited for the rest of this week.”

On his fellow offensive captains (Adrian Martinez and Matt Farniok), who are both two-year captains
“Yeah, no it it's amazing for them to be leaders more than one year. Back to back is incredible. So I'm going to look at them for examples on how to be a leader. They’ve both been great leaders since I've been here. It is obviously different mindset when it comes to that so I would look to them for that. But they're going to do a great job of leading this team and help me lead as well. They're basically my mentors for a little bit, as I figure out how to become a captain. But I'm excited to be a captain with those guys and I'm excited for those guys we captain.”

On who he credits for his football knowledge and if his parents played a role in that
“Yeah, you know I do think my dad played a major role in that obviously. I mean I was throwing a football from the moment I came out the womb. I was given the football my entire life. I'm still to this day, my dad text me all the time. He sends me videos of concepts he sees in the NFL or routes he sees. So he's constantly trying to teach me, and I always reach out to him to say hey ‘the defense we're playing this week runs this defense. How would you attack that?’ So we have a constant communication back and forth, but my mom always says he wants to include interviews more, so I will say that she's always taught me to do my best work no matter what. She doesn't care about my stats, she doesn't care about the route I run or anything. All she would always ask me is ‘did you do your best work’ and I think that's resonated through my entire football career. So I’ve got to give my mom some credit too.”

On how much the team has hit in practice
“Yeah no, it feels like we've been hitting forever. I mean, I'm excited to hit other guys this weekend. I'm excited to actually finish blocks, and obviously there's an aspect to keep each other safe, so you can't really finish blocks. We haven't had much live tackling just because we want to keep ourselves safe. I mean our bodies have been working for so long we want to keep those fresh as we can going into the season and our first game. But going forward, yeah, we're all excited to be able to finish blocks, be able to tackle the ground and be able to be more physical. So we’ve hit each other long enough, and I would speak for the whole team that we’re ready to hit somebody else.”
