Norman, Okla. -- Sophomore Victor Moreno Lozano notched his third season win at the No. 1 spot with a 6-1, 6-1 upset of Jake Van Emburgh, but the Nebraska men's tennis (2-10, 0-1 Big Ten) fell short to the No. 32 Oklahoma Sooners (10-4, 0-0 Big 12), 6-1, on Sunday morning at the Headington Family Tennis Center.
In doubles play, Jochen Bertsch and Van Emburgh teamed up for a 6-1 win over sophomore Patrick Cacciatore and freshman Andre Saleh at the No. 1 position, before Mark Mandlik/Matt Rodriguez defeated Albert Sprlak-Puk/Shunya Maruyama, 7-5 at No. 3 to clinch doubles for the Sooners.
Bertsch quickly knocked off Cacciatore at No. 6 to start singles competition, 6-1, 6-0. Sophomore William Gleason then fell short to No. 104 Mason Beiler, 6-4, 6-3, while Justin Schalegeter overcame Sprlak-Puk, 6-4, 7-5, to clinch the match for Oklahoma.
Mandlik beat Saleh, 6-0, 7-4, at No. 3, and Alex Martinez handed Maruyama a 7-5, 6-4 loss at the No. 4 position for a 6-1 Oklahoma victory.
The Huskers are back in action in Lincoln next weekend for their Big Ten Conference home debut, as NU takes on Wisconsin on Friday, March 13, at 5 p.m. Admission is free to the Dillon Tennis Center.
