Nebraska Wins Big Red Invitational

Lincoln, Neb. - The Huskers finished in first place at the Big Red Invitational.

The starting rotation consisted of Allison Morris, Estefania Prieto, Leah Glazer, Cassidy Ray and Raquel Orozco.

Nebraska began the day with a match against No. 8 Youngstown State. The Huskers started off strong by taking game one, scoring 246-220 as the team combined for eight strikes. In game two, NU earned a 201-158 victory. They collected a total of five strikes and Glazer got a spare by knocking down a 2-10 split in the eighth frame. Building off of their momentum, the Huskers won game three 202-158 to take a 3-0 lead. The bowlers fell 174-205 in the fourth game, but bounced back to claim the fifth 245-220. NU proceeded on with a 4-1 victory.

Next up for the Huskers was Augustana. Nebraska picked up where they left off, winning the first game 256-164. The team collectively bowled nine strikes in the game. The second game led to a 202-187 victory for the Huskers as they bowled five strikes. In the third game, NU took another 3-0 lead as they earned a 204-182 victory. The fourth match began with the Huskers bowling six straight strikes. Orozco bowled a seventh strike in the tenth frame. NU swept Augustana 4-0 before heading on to the championship match.

The championship match was the fourth time No. 3 Nebraska and No. 8 Youngstown State would meet in the tournament. NU fell in the first game 167-223 and went down 0-1. The Huskers rebounded in the second game with a 202-187 win, evening the series at 1-1. The winning trend continued into game three as the Huskers took a 247-224 victory and a 2-1 advantage. The Huskers fell in the fourth game 235-245, tying the series at 2-2. Youngstown State took a 3-2 lead as NU fell 192-226 in the fifth game. The Huskers evened the series at 3-3 with a 234-193 win. NU outscored Youngstown State 236-196 to win the seventh game and the tournament.

The Huskers will return to the lanes at the Music City Classic March 6-8 in Nashville, Tenn.
