Jack Stoll
SENIOR | TIGHT END
On this offseason versus prior years
"I know one thing we're always preaching is day by day. I think that's what we've done. We ended coming into January kind of with the mentality of just getting a little bit better each day and that's something we've done and coach [Zach Duval] and coach [Andrew Stop] had done an unbelievable job of preparing us. We feel really confident heading into spring ball and I think we had a great day one of practice and we're just going to continue to build on that and get better every single day."
On offensive coordinator Matt Lubick
"Coach Lubick, he has been a great guy. Obviously, he's only been here a couple of weeks and I'm just starting to get to know him, but he brings a different kind of energy that I know we're all excited about and we're just excited to see what he can draw up. He's just a great offensive mind to have in the building so we're all just excited to see what he'll end up doing this year."
On Lubick's energy
"He comes in and you can tell he just loves football period. He lives and breathes it and that's someone I want on the coaching staff and you can tell he's 100 percent dedicated to it. We're excited to have him on the staff and I look forward to getting to know him personally and seeing what he can do for this team."
On returning starters
"The experience is definitely going to help. I think we've got a lot of young guys who are rising up and they're working hard and you're starting to see a lot less difference between the starters and the twos and stuff like that. The game experience definitely does help no doubt, but anyone who's hungry is going to go out there and make play period. It definitely will help us, but I don't think it's gonna be as big as everyone makes it out to be."
On work that needs to be done
"We're just going to work on what we always have and that's making sure we have all our details right and the run game, making sure we run our routes correct and making sure we're at our right lane marks. Really, the big thing we're all focusing on as an offense, as a team is making sure all the details are dialed up and making sure all those small things are taken care of the way that's on the field, off the field. That's something we're really preaching and just those little details is really another huge thing we're kind of working on this spring."
On the receiving group
"We have a lot of playmakers in the tight end group. We're just excited to see what we can end up doing. There's a lot of young guys in the wide receiver room, who are going out there and making plays. So I'm really excited to see who will end up stepping up in that receiver room. It's just going to be an exciting spring to see who's going to be going out there and making plays."
On Travis Vokolek
"He's an unbelievable guy. Someone you can trust on and off the field. Obviously, he has some game experience playing over at Rutgers. He kind of took last year as more of a redshirt season, which I think helped him tremendously where it helped him learn the offense, develop everything and he's making huge strides. I know he's going to go out there and help benefit this team in the fall. I'm just really excited to have him on the team. He's a great guy and I just can't wait for him to go out there and make some plays."
On a team theme
"I think there's kind of some things we're kind of focusing on like I previously said. It's just a little bit of the details. Making sure that we've got all of that dialed up, that's something that I feel like we're putting a huge emphasis on this spring. We look forward to making sure everything's taken care of so we've got a lot cleaner the game than we have sometimes in the past where even just the difference in two yards on a route can make an entire difference. I think detail is huge. We're definitely focusing on playing a lot more as a unit. Another huge thing we're focusing on is special teams. Making sure we've got that all dialed up. That's something that everyone's got to go take pride in regardless. Starters, backups, scout team, everyone's got to go out there and give it their all. That's another huge thing we're going to end up focusing on this spring. Clean it up a little bit and I think we got a great guy who came in and he's gonna help us tremendously. It's just interesting seeing how he does things and I think he's going to help this team a lot this fall."
On the offense's tempo
"I think it's definitely going to help us, specifically earlier on, like in the spring right now. We're going to be able to definitely be a little bit faster where you don't have to worry about everyone necessarily knowing their assignments as much as focusing on the details is what everyone's doing. I think it will definitely help us run a little bit faster of an offense."
On the details
"It's just day by day getting better in every aspect. I know that's something that everyone's trying to do personally and everyone in the tight end room, that's again just mastering our craft. Making sure we're the best run blockers out there whether that's when we're attached [or] detached and making sure we're running crisp routes and we look like wide receivers out there. Really that's what we're trying to do and we're just excited for it."
On Chris Hickman
"He's been a really versatile guy playing a bunch of different positions where he's been playing tight end, he's been playing wide receiver, he's playing XZ slot Y, all that. He's a really smart kid on the field. I'm just excited to see where he ends up and he's a very versatile player so he can be really valuable for us."
On this offseason
"Everyone's hungry and I think it's one [where] everyone just kind of puts their heads down and just keeps grinding, chipping away. We're not trying to talk too much about last year. Everything like that's all in the past. We're just looking forward and it's a really promising future for us. We're just going to keep attacking everything as a unit and get closer as a team and just get better and better."
On special teams
"We've just been focusing a lot more on the details and kind of learning a bunch of new stuff here. It's just kind of getting dialed up on our assignment right now, understanding the details and just slowly and slowly getting better and better."
