Huskers Slam Scarlet Knights, 6-1

East Brunswick, N.J., --The Nebraska women's tennis team improves to 8-3 on the year and 1-0 in the Big Ten following a convincing 6-1 win over Rutgers on Wednesday afternoon. Rutgers falls to 7-3 and 0-2 in the Big Ten. 

Nebraska earned its seventh doubles point of the season, followed by five consecutive singles wins to defeat Rutgers on the road. 

Doubles
At the No. 1 spot, Hayley Haakenstad and Kristina Novak fell behind early but bounced back to pick up a 6-4 win. Haakenstad and Novak improve to 3-1 as a team.

Chloe and Ellie Kuckelman wrapped up the doubles point with a 6-3 win at the No. 3 spot. The twins from Overland Park, Kan., improve to 4-3 this Spring. 

Singles
Chloe Kuckelman earned her seventh win on the year, a team-high, after a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Muzik at the No. 4 spot to put NU up 2-0.

At No.1, Reifeis defeated Maya Jacobs to put the Huskers up 3-0 in the match. The senior from Indianapolis, Ind., is now 5-3 on the year, including a 4-2 record at the No. 1 spot. 

Adrover Gallego clinched the match for the Huskers with a 6-4, 7-6(5) win at No. 3. The freshman from Mallorca, Spain, improves to 3-1 on the season.

Ellie Kuckelman handed Jaci Cochrane her first loss of the season with a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 5. Kuckelman is now 6-2 on the year.  

Novak came out on top in a third set super tiebreaker to defeat Tess Fisher 6-2, 6-7(4), 10-2. The freshman from Radovlijica, Slovenia improves to 6-2 on the year.

Rutgers picked up its lone point at No. 6 as Haakenstad suffered her first loss of the 2020 season in a third set super tiebreaker. Haakenstad slips to 4-1 on the year following the 7-6(4), 6-7(2), 8-10 loss to an unbeaten Kristiana Zahare.

The Huskers have a quick turn-around as they are set to take on Wichita State Saturday, Feb. 29 at the Dillon Tennis Center. The match will begin at 11 a.m. CT with free admission.
