Scouting Pepperdine
• The No. 30 Waves have a perfect start to their season so far, winning all eight matches played so far, split equally between home and away contests -- it is Pepperdine's best opening sequence since 2006, when the program won a national title.
• Pepperdine comes off a strong 5-2 win at No. 29 Minnesota last Sunday, February 23, when Tim Zeitvogel and Adrian Oetzbach led the way.
• Zeitvogel, a sophomore from Baden-Baden, Germany, clinched the match at Minnesota to continue his undefeated sequence in singles, as he holds an 8-0 record in the dual season, with five wins out of the No. 4 spot.
• Oetzbach, a fellow German, posted his third win at the No. 3 position for a 5-0 singles mark in the spring.
• After the trip to Nebraska, the Waves will head to Norman, Okla., for a match with the Sooners on Monday, March 2.
Scouting Iowa
• No. 28 Iowa comes off a road trip with a pair of hard-fought matches -- on Friday, Feb. 21, the Hawkeyes lost to Utah, 4-3, in Salt Lake City, before rebounding with a 4-3 win at Denver on Sunday, Feb. 23.
• The 8-2 Hawkeyes had a seven-match winning streak before the loss to the Utes, including victories against Drake, Wichita State and Marquette
• No. 61 Kareem Allaf leads the Iowa lineup at the No. 1 spot, as the Dubai native holds a team-best 8-1 dual season mark. Meanwhile, the duo of Will Davies/Oliver Okonkwo is ranked No. 10 in the nation by the latest (Feb. 18) ITA rankings.
• Iowa will host VCU on Saturday, Feb. 29, before its Sunday matchup with Nebraska.
Series History
• Nebraska and Pepperdine only played each other once in history -- and the match took place in Malibu, Calif., on March 20, 2012. That day, the Waves defeated the Huskers, 7-0.
• Iowa holds a tight 8-7 edge over Nebraska all-tme, as the Huskers last won in 2016, when Andrew Dzulnysnky clinched a 4-3 hard-fought win over the then-No. 47 Hawkeyes.
• NU and Iowa most recently met in Lincoln, where the Hawkeyes knocked off the Huskers, 5-2.
• The Nebraska-Iowa rivalry dates back to 1980, when both teams first played in Iowa City for an 8-1 Hawkeye win.
Up Next
• Nebraska will head to Oklahoma next weekend for a matchup with the Sooners on Sunday, March 8 at Noon CT.
Moreno Starts Strong
• Sophomore Victor Moreno Lozano started off the season at No. 2, but quickly took over the No. 1 spot after notching singles wins at Vanderbilt, vs. Auburn and vs. UMKC.
• Moreno recently clinched the match for the Huskers in a 4-3 win over UTSA -- he defeated Kai Breitbach in three sets, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.
• The Madrid, Spain, native also had a strong fall season, earning seven singles wins. So far, Moreno holds an 11-10 overall record.
Freshmen Racking Up Wins
• Shunya Maruyama, from Nagano, Japan, owns a team-best five dual season wins, while Newport Beach, Calif., native Andre Saleh posted another two singles victories.
• Saleh was a five-star recruit and the No. 52-rated prospect in the nation, while Maruyama was a four-time International Tennis Federation (ITF) Junior Doubles Champion before joining Nebraska.
Maymi Sets Strong Schedule in 2020
