Huskers Come Up Short in Austin

Austin, Texas -- The Nebraska men's tennis team (2-7, 0-0 Big Ten) fell short of the #5 Texas Longhorns (8-2, 0-0 Big 12) on Sunday afternoon in Austin.

Sophomore, Patrick Cacciatore scored the only point for the Huskers, and he did so in commanding fashion. He took the point in a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Eshan Talluri at the No.6 spot. Cacciatore, the Tampa, Fla. native, captured his second singles win of the spring. 

The Huskers began the day facing off against the Longhorns in doubles competition. At the No.1 spot the #13 duo in the country of Christian Sigsgaard and Yuya Ito defeated Albert Sprlak-Puk and Andre Saleh, 6-2. At the No. 2 spot Patrick Cacciatore and William Gleason fell short to Eliot Spizzirri and Jacob Bullard, 6-3.  

In singles play the Huskers struggled against a strong Texas team. The Longhorns are led by the #2 player in the country, Yuya Ito, who defeated Victor Moreno Lozano at the No.1 spot, 6-2, 6-1. Albert Sprlak-Puk was defeated at the No.3 spot by Eliot Spizzirri, 6-1, 6-1.  At the No.2 spot William Gleason was defeated by the #45 player in the country, Siem Woldeab, 6-0, 6-2, clinching the match for Texas. Chih Chi Huang defeated Andre Saleh at the No.4, 6-0, 6-2. Shunya Maruyama fought hard to keep his win streak alive, but fell to Evin McDonald, 6-4, 6-4 at the No.5 spot. 

The Huskers look to rebound as they travel back to Lincoln for a home match against Pepperdine, Friday, February 28, at 5 p.m. CT. Admission to the Dillon Tennis Center is free, and the match will have live streaming and stats.
