Moreno Clinches, Huskers Beat Roadrunners 4-3

San Antonio, Texas -- The Nebraska men's tennis team (2-6, 0-0 Big Ten) earned its second victory of the season -- and first road win -- in a hard-fought, 4-3 upset over the UTSA Roadrunners on Saturday afternoon at the UTSA Tennis Center. 

The Huskers started off with a strong doubles performance, winning the team point for only the second time this year. NU went on to claim another two singles matches, but lost three others, tying the match at 3-3 as sophomore Victor Moreno Lozano played Kai Breitbach at the No. 1 spot. Moreno repeated his feat against Denver last year and clinched the match with a three-set, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 victory over Breitbach.

In doubles competition, sophomores William Gleason and Patrick Cacciatore dropped a 6-1 contest to Sebastian Rodriguez/Joao Alcantara at the No. 2 spot, but the freshman duo of Albert Sprlak-Puk and Andre Saleh responded with a 6-3 win over Juri Reckow and Joao Ceolin at No. 1. Freshman Shunya Maruyama and Moreno clinched the doubles point for NU after knocking off Breitbach/Javier Gonzalez at the No. 3 position, 6-4.

Maruyama extended his winning streak to four matches after a 6-4, 6-2 win over Ceolin at the No. 5 spot. The Nagano, Japan, native now holds a team-best 5-2 singles mark in the spring. Cacciatore won his second singles match of the year in a 6-1, 6-2 contest against Alan Sanson at No. 6. 

At the No. 2 position, Sprlak-Puk fell short to Rodriguez, 6-2, 7-5. Gleason dropped a 6-1, 6-2 match to Reckow at No. 3, while Saleh was defeated by Rodriguez at No. 4, 7-5, 6-3.

The Huskers will drive up to Austin later tonight as they play the No. 5 Texas Longhorns tomorrow at 11 a.m. CT.

Nebraska will return home this weekend after a five-match road sequence, as the Huskers take on Pepperdine on Friday, February 28, at 5 p.m. CT at the Dillon Tennis Center in Lincoln. Admission is free.
