With the spring portion of the 2019-20 season set to begin Jan. 18 at Vanderbilt, the Nebraska men's tennis team is gearing up for Year 2 under Head Coach Sean Maymi. Three players return and seven new players have joined the program since the conclusion of the 2018-19 campaign.
One of those returnees is Chris Dean. The Papillion, Neb., native is the lone senior on the 2019-20 roster. Dean battled injuries throughout his junior season but was able to form a reliable doubles team with former Husker Isaac Nortey, as both combined to a team-best 6-5 record, including a 2-1 mark in Big Ten Conference competition. Dean also notched four singles wins overall, with two in the fall and two out of the No. 5 spot in the spring season. His veteran presence will be counted upon by his teammates and coaches alike. The senior Husker reflects on his journey to Nebraska and his goals for the upcoming season below:
Describe your journey to Lincoln – how did you end up at Nebraska?
"I grew up in Nebraska and wanted to represent the state where I grew up in."
What have you enjoyed most during the first few months of the 2019-20 season?
"Building a strong relationship with my teammates and improving as a team every day on and off the court."
