Huskers Sign Maja Makoric

The Nebraska women's tennis team will welcome new member Maja Makoric to its lineup for the 2020-21 season. Makoric joins the Huskers from Dobrovo, Slovenia, and will look to make an instant impact in her debut season.

"She will be a great asset to our program in both singles and doubles," Head Coach Scott Jacobson said. "We are adding to a nucleus that we believe will help us compete for future Big Ten Championships. She truly understands the importance of team chemistry and the importance of being surrounded by people who care for each other."

Prior to Nebraska, Makoric was a standout player with a career-high ITF Junior Singles Ranking of No. 292. In 2019 she went 23-10 in singles including a 14-8 record on clay. Makoric is a U18 indoor National Champion and holds two ITF junior titles. In doubles, Makoric holds three titles including Maribor, Budapest, and Mostar.

Makoric chose Nebraska over Florida State, Kansas State, Arizona State, Minnesota, Virgina Tech and Iowa.

Makoric on Nebraska:

"I chose Nebraska because of the very kind and positive people," Makoric said. "The school is smaller, and I got the feeling that people are very connected, and they like to help each other. I was impressed most about the resources and the school support for athletes in every possible way."
