White Outlasts Red, 137-135

LINCOLN, Neb. - Two meet records were broken, and one was tied as fans got their first chance to see the 2020 Nebraska track and field team in action on Saturday. The white team outlasted the red squad, 137-135 at the annual Intrasquad Meet at the Devaney Center Indoor Track.

Before the first Lil' Husker races, Matthew Brown of the red team provided some fireworks. Brown won the men's 60-meter dash in a time of 6.74, tying the meet record set by Malcolm White in 2015.

Midway through the meet, James Joycey (red team) shattered the men's weight throw record with a toss of 67-9 3/4 (20.67m). Alencar Pereira (white team) was the runner-up with a mark of 66-9 1/4 (20.35m), his toss would have also broken the previous meet record. Nick Percy originally set the men's weight throw Intrasquad record with a distance of 65-11 3/4 (20.11m) in 2017.

Ty Moss (white team) was the final Husker to set a new meet record at the Intrasquad. Moss ran a time of 2:26.97 in the men's 1,000-meters, breaking Tommy Brinn's record of 2:27.27 set in 2012.

Saturday also gave young Nebraska fans the opportunity to compete on the same track that the Huskers run on. Lil' Huskers (grades eight and below) ran in both the 60-meter and 100-meter dashes.

Nebraska will begin the 2020 season hosting the Graduate Classic at the Devaney Center Indoor Track on Jan. 17-18.
