Huskers Drop First Road Duel to Kansas

The Huskers couldn't get the job done in Lawrence, falling to the unbeaten Kansas Jayhawks 198-107. The Jayhawks started hot early and never looked back, as they improve to 4-0 on the year, while the Huskers drop to 3-1.

Nebraska's distance races were the strongpoint day, as they have been much of the season. Sophomore Audrey Coffey took first place in the 1000 yard free (10:12.86) to achieve another collegiate career best in the category. Rachel Powers followed closely behind, earning herself a runner-up finish (10:17.17) in the race.

In the 500 free, it was junior co-captain Autumn Haebig who came out on top (4:57.84), grabbing herself another first-place finish on the season. Haebig added a second place finish (1:51.17) in the 200 free to round out her afternoon.

In the sprint freestyle races 50 junior Sutton Marvin and freshman Kaitlyn Barth earned themselves top-five finishes, landing in fourth and fifth respectively in the 50 free.
In the 100 free, senior Carla Gonzalez grabbed a third place finish (53.06), and teammate Savannah Savitt coming in fifth (54.06)

Sophomore divers Sara Troyer and Hallie Roman both gave solid performances on the road trip. Troyer took second place in both the one meter dive (291.00) and the three meter dive (320.70), giving her a pair of runner-up finishes. Roman landed in third place in the one meter (233.55) and in 4th in the three meter (227.93).

In the fly, junior Madison Coughlen took first place in the 200 butterfly (2:02.17), while sophomore Maggie Berning grabbed third place (2:04.20) in the race. Madison Coughlen also finished in 4th place in the 100 fly (57.54).

Senior Tori Beeler gave the Husker's their fourth victory of the afternoon (2:04.94) with a win in the 200 IM. Freshman Berkeley Livingston swam to a solid fourth place finish (2:08.69), earning herself another top-five finish.

Carla Gonzalez got on the podium again, finishing in third place (57.89) in the 100 backstroke. Jessica Pentlarge grabbed fourth place for Nebraska (2:07.68) in the 200 backstroke, and Berkeley Livingston knotched a fifth place finish (2:08.95) to her day.

In the breaststroke, Tori Beeler landed in fourth place in the 100 breast (1:05.34), adding to a solid day. Gwen Worlton followed her up, finishing in fifth in the 100 breast (1:05.82) and fourth (2:22.81) in the 200 breast.

In relay action, the Husker's earned third place in both the 200 medley relay (14:46.51) with Haebig, Worlton, Murray, Beeler and the 400 freestyle relay (3:32.10) with swimmers Haebig, Gonzalez, Savitt, Beeler.

The Huskers drop to 3-1 on the season and 12-27 against the Kansas Jayhawks all-time. Nebraska will battle the 4-1 Missouri Tigers in the Mizzou Invitational from Nov. 20 through Nov. 22.
