The Nebraska swimming and diving team finished the third day of prelims in Missouri on another strong note. The Huskers had twelve swimmers move in 14 spots move to the finals on Thursday evening. Currently, the Huskers sit at fifth out of thirteen in the Mizzou Invite standings.
Junior co-captain Autumn Haebig qualified for the second night in a row but this time she shined in the 200 yard freestyle. Haebig finished with the best time of the prelim (1:47.59) and secured herself a spot in the A-Final this evening. Savanna Savitt was the next Husker to finish in the race, landing in 16th, good for a spot in the B-Final. Three other swimmers finished back to back to back, starting with Carla Gonzalez who snagged 20th (1:51.34), Audrey Coffey who grabbed 21st (1:51.56), and Jessica Pentlarge rounding out the bunch with a solid 22nd place spot (1:51.60).
Two Huskers qualified for the final round in the 400 yard IM, first with junior Madison Coughlen who came up in fourth (4:18.04) and freshman Berkeley Livingston followed with a good performance, finishing in 10th (4:21.73). Coughlen and Livingston are both making their returns to the finals after successful races yesterday.
In the 100 yard breaststroke, Gwen Worlton was the first Husker to grab a finals spot in the qualifying prelim, racing to a 16th place finish (1:03.54). Following tightly behind Worlton was Tori Beeler, who finished just a spot behind in 17th place (1:03.65) and Savannah Savitt who was next in line in 18th place (1:04.03), good for her second finals appearance this evening. Gabby Baratta wasn't too far behind her teammates, taking 24th place (1:05.94) in the race.
The fourth and final event that the Husker swimmers qualified for was the 100 yard backstroke. Lindsey Stalheim was the first to finish for Nebraska, landing in 19th place (55.93), good for her second finals appearance of the week. Carla Gonzalez finished closely behind in 23rd (56.43) and joins Savannah Savitt as the only two Huskers to compete in two finals events in the same night. Junior co-captain Izzie Murray finished off the Husker's afternoon taking the 32nd (58.41) and final spot in the 100 back.
The Husker swimmers will continue the third day of the Mizzou Invite this evening, with the final races beginning at 6 p.m.
