The Nebraska Swimming and Diving team began its four-day trip in Missouri at 4 p.m Tuesday afternoon, where five Huskers competed in the opening day's long course trials. Only five Huskers competed in the long course meter trials, while day two of competition continues tomorrow.
The five Huskers to compete in the LCM were Tori Beeler, Maggie Berning, Carla Gonzalez, Jessica Pentlarge and Lindsey Stalheim.
Maggie Berning started off her week well, finishing first in the 200 long course butterfly (2:15.60), beating her initial seed time by almost a second.
Carla Gonzalez raced in the 100 long course freestyle and tied for third place (58.35), while also topping her initial seed time.
Jessica Pentlarge competed in the 200 long course backstroke and took home the fourth place spot (2:19.88) in the race.
Lindsey Stalheim added her contributions in the 100 long course butterfly, landing in fifth place (1:03.83).
Senior Tori Beeler ended the Huskers evening in the 100 long course breaststroke, which was one of the largest competitions of the evening. Beeler finished in 10th, finishing the opening day in Missouri for the Huskers.
The Nebraska swimmers faced multiple different schools in tonights long course trials and will continue tomorrow against tough competition in more long course events. Day two of the Mizzou Invite begins at 10 a.m on Wednesday morning and continues throughout Friday, Nov. 22.
