The Nebraska women's tennis team is sending Chloe and Ellie Kuckelman to the Dick Vitale Intercollegiate Clay Court Classic in Lakewood Ranch, Flor., Nov. 1-3. This will be the final competition of the 2019 fall season for NU.
In its 10th year of existence, the Dick Vitale Classic is the only ITA or NCAA sanctioned event to be played on clay. The 32-player singles draw and 16-team doubles draw is set to begin Friday at the Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club. All proceeds from the tournament benefit the V Foundation Cancer Research for pediatric cancer.
The freshmen duo of Chloe and Ellie Kuckelman will be representing the Big Red at this weekend's tournament. The twins from Overland Park, Kan., made an impressive debut at the ITA Central Regionals in Norman, Okla. In the qualifying draw, Ellie picked up back-to-back wins to earn a spot in the main draw. She dropped her match in the round of 128 and holds a 2-2 fall record entering this weekend's tournament.
Chloe Kuckelman holds a 2-1 fall singles record after defeating North Dakota in the round of 128 and an extra match victory over Tulsa. In doubles, she paired with senior Claire Reifeis to pick up a first-round win over Missouri.
