Pre-Northern Illinois

On the mood at today’s practice following Saturday’s loss
“We put it behind us. We are looking forward to Northern Illinois and we got in ready to practice. This morning’s lift was actually very, very intense and very good. (Zach) Duval did a great job of letting us work that soreness out that we had leftover, and this morning's practice was phenomenal. The defense was flying around, offense flying around, minimal errors, everything looked pretty solid.”

On coming back on Monday and having a strong practice
“You've just got to bounce back. It’s part of the game and we signed up for it, wins and losses. We've got to turn on the film and get ready for our next opponent and work hard. Everything we want to work for and everything we have in mind is still in our grasp, so we are going to keep working towards it.”

On what stood out in film
“Poor execution. We did some corrections today. We knew where we messed up at so that’s the positive out of it, that’s where we can get better. I feel like today we improved on it and won’t have to worry about it anymore.”

On missed tackles
“It was poor execution, just one of those things. Today at practice we went out there and practiced really hard, focused on the little things that we messed up on to get ready for next week.”

On not becoming doubtful as a team
“If you look at the first half of this past week, we look phenomenal, we did a phenomenal job on both sides of the ball and that’s where we hope to stay at because we played some great football. Not the outcome we wanted. We see what we can do and we see what we are capable of and that does nothing but give us more pride in what we can do and our abilities.”

On how to make sure this loss doesn’t linger
“Win, win. That’s one thing I remember (Oklahoma State Coach Mike) Gundy always stressed to us, he said ‘the only way to get over a loss is with a win.’ We go out here this week, we practice hard like we always do, and we go out there on Saturday. We win in front of the home crowd, it’ll make us feel a lot better. The morale will go up, and we just keep marching on from there.”

On if he’s ever seen a loss carry over into the next week
“I haven’t and that’s because our coaches do a great job of keeping us in the right state of mind. The players do a pretty good job of keeping each other up. We turn on the film and I had some linebackers come up to me and say ‘hey Darrion you see on this play, this is how you can play that better,’ and I was like, ‘you’re right.’ Same thing with linemen and linebackers and corners. Like I said, we know where we messed up at, and that gives us hope because we know that everything we did can be corrected and fixed.”

On how to kill time before a Saturday night game
“Film, film and more film. Personally, I like to watch highlights. I watch some Aaron Donald or Ndamukong Suh, some Fletcher Cox just to get my mind right and to see what I want to do. I put that in my head and watch more film to get a good grasp of the team and make sure I know what to do. That extra time will be a lot of mental rest to get ready for the game.”

On defensive players who have been playing well
“The whole defense is. Everybody shows up. If you look at one of us, it’s like dang, you feel me? All of my teammates on the defensive and offensive end, it’s like that one play where you see them, and you see their greatness. The only thing that we have to do is to make sure that greatness is consistent throughout the whole game. Not just a few quarters or a few plays, but make sure that same level is kept throughout the whole game.”

On the rhythm of the defensive line
“It’s a great rhythm. Coach T [Defensive Line Coach Tony Tuioti] does a great job of giving us good reps throughout the week and during the game. He does a great job of rotating us and making sure we have fresh legs out on the field."
