JoJo Domann
Junior, Outside Linebacker
On the opportunity for Saturday’s game
“This is what you play for, right? It’s a big game and a big stage. We’re going to have to play our best football on Saturday.”
On what effect the big play hit and fumble he had last year against Ohio State has affected his progress
“That’s nice. Anytime you make a play for your squad, that’s what you’re out there to do. Hopefully, I can do something similar to that on Saturday.”
On where he got his football instincts
“I think I probably developed as a kid playing backyard football. Being around the game with my paps and just having a love for it, watching NFL football every Sunday, and all the throwback games. If you see someone do it over and over again the right way, you are going to try to emulate it the same way. I think I would just attest it to that.”
On who he watched in the NFL as a kid
“I was a big Ed Reid and Ray Lewis fan. I loved the Colts. I should probably look at Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis a little more to work on that pass rush.”
On how much it helps the defense when senior cornerback Lamar Jackson and junior cornerback Dicaprio Bootle are playing well
“If they lock down the sideline, it makes our job a lot easier. We take the two guys out of the game, now it’s nine vs. nine on a shorter field. It helps a lot.”
On his thoughts on the Ohio State offense
“They have a good scheme and real good players. We have to play our best football on Saturday. We've got to be locked in all week and ready to play.”
On how Ohio State sophomore quarterback Justin Fields presents a different challenge than last year’s quarterback Dwayne Haskins
“Fields is going to challenge us. We have to rally to him. He can make one or two guys miss and still be able to throw the football downfield. We just need to hone in on our technique, get to the rock and bring him down to the ground.”
On if Illinois junior running back Reggie Corbin is a good test for Ohio State’s junior running back J.K. Dobbins
“We are going to play good running backs all year. This is the Big Ten. We've got to tackle him, rally to him and bring him to the ground just like anybody and really bring the hits this week.”
On if the coaches had talked to him about what he needed to do to get a Blackshirt
“I was in a different color jersey today. I was. That was fun. It was a good time.”
On if this was his first time being a Blackshirt
“No, this is first time fresh off the press.”
On what receiving the Blackshirt was like
“It was nice. It was fun. If you've got a dream and you've got courage to pursue it, anything can happen. Just me earning my Blackshirt yesterday… I think it’s been a process in the making over the past year and a half. It’s a dream come true.”
On how the coaches presented him with the Blackshirt
“It was on my locker.”
On if he expected it
“I went ot my laundry locker and got my red jersey, and I was like ‘yep, nothing new.’ Then I turned the corner to my regular locker and there it was. I was like ‘nice.’ It’s go time.”
