NU Concludes Play at Milwaukee Tennis Classic

Milwaukee, Wis., --The Nebraska women's tennis team concluded play at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic on Saturday evening. Four Huskers competed in singles and doubles throughout the weekend.

 
In her first match of the day, freshman Kristina Novak fought back after dropping a first-set tiebreaker to defeat May Kimhi of FAU 6-7(0), 6-3, 6-3 in the main draw. In the round of 16, Novak faced off with the No. 5 seed of the tournament, Daevenia Achong of Miami. In 2019, Achong went 18-9 in singles for the Hurricanes and ended the season ranked No. 123 in singles. Novak fell to Achong 6-1, 6-3, to end her run at the tournament.
 
Isabel Adrover Gallego dropped her first match of the day to Martina Capurro of Oklahoma. Capurro is the No. 11 seed of the tournament and went 14-8 for the Sooners last spring playing out of the No. 2 spot. Adrover Gallego fell 6-4, 6-4 to Capurro.
 
After suffering day 1 losses, Hayley Haakenstad and Claire Reifeis both received first-round byes in the consolation bracket. On Saturday, Haakenstad fell to Maria Alfaro of ULM 7-6, 6-4 and Reifeis lost to Rachel Papasavilopoulo of EIU 6-3, 6-1.
 
In doubles play, Adrover Gallego and Reifeis fell to Yusuova and Ramirez of Syracuse in a tough match 9-8. Haakenstad and Novak dropped their match to Wilson and Kulikov of USC 8-4.
