Milwaukee, Wisc. --The Nebraska women's tennis team completed day 1 of the Milwaukee Tennis Classic. Freshmen Isabel Adrover Gallego and Kristina Novak had a clean sweep in both doubles and singles on the first day of competition.
Novak defeated the No. 14 seed of the tournament, Ana Neffa of USC 6 -4, 6-4. In the 2019 regular season, Neffa played predominately at No. 3 singles for the Trojans.
Fellow freshman Adrover Gallego also defeated a USC Trojan. In straight sets, Adrover Gallego picked up the 6-2, 6-2 win over Constance Branstine. Last season, Branstine altered between the No. 5 and No. 6 singles spots for USC.
The Husker doubles teams went 2-0 in Fridays opening round of play. Adrover Gallego and All-Big 10 returner, Claire Reifeis defeated Kallmunzerova/Kimhi of FAU 8-3. NU's other freshman/senior pair, Kristina Novak and Hayley Haakenstad, topped Gouws/Papavasilopoulo of EIU 8-4.
In other singles matchups, Reifeis fell to Aran Teixido Garcia of Memphis 6-1, 6-1 and Haakenstad dropped her match to Buzkova of FAU 6 -4, 6-2.
Play resumes tomorrow morning at 8, starting with doubles.
