The Nebraska women's tennis team heads to Milwaukee this weekend to compete at the 44th Annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic. The Milwaukee Country Club (hard-court) is set to host the four-day women's invite. Four Huskers are traveling to this weekend's tournament; including seniors Claire Reifeis and Hayley Haakenstad and freshmen Isabel Adrover Gallego and Kristina Novak.
The Milwaukee Classic marks the first fall tournament appearance for both Haakenstad and Reifeis. Last season, Reifeis earned All-Big Ten honors after going 19-6 in singles out of the No. 1 and No. 2 spots and earning a 14-5 record in doubles play. Reifeis will look to build off an impressive junior campaign as the 2019 fall schedule kicks off.
Haakenstad will also make her fall debut this weekend. Last spring, Haakenstad had a 13-10 singles record playing out of the No. 5 and No. 6 spots. The Chanhassen, Minn., native spent her time on the doubles court with three different partners throughout the season while going 10-11 overall.
Adrover Gallego is coming off an impressive debut at the Lawrence ITF . Adrover Gallego picked up two wins in the qualifying draw as well as a first-round win in the main draw over Jada Robinson 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 before falling in the round of 16.
Novak also competed at the Lawrence ITF last week with Adrover Gallego. Novak earned a 6-2, 6-4 win in the first round of singles qualifications over Jessica Failia before suffering a second-round loss.
A total of 21 programs will be represented at this weekend's tournament, including four Big Ten opponents - Michigan State, Northwestern, Purdue and Maryland. Competition in Milwaukee begins Friday morning with the opening rounds of singles and doubles.
