Huskers Tee Off Season at Duke/Rod Myers Invitational

Lincoln, Neb. --- The Nebraska men's golf team will begin the fall portion of the 2019-20 season at the Rod Myers Invitational hosted by Duke University on Saturday, Sept. 14.

The tournament will take place at the Duke University Golf Club, the site of the 2001 NCAA Men's Golf Championship. Nebraska will be part of a 13-team field that includes seven schools that advanced to NCAA postseason play in 2019. It marks Nebraska's second straight year at the Rod Myers Invitational and the Huskers will look to improve on their 13th-place finish one year ago (914, +50).

The Huskers are looking to build on a solid showing in Head Coach Mark Hankins' first season at the helm. Nebraska recorded a program-best fifth-place finish at the Big Ten Championships to cap the 2018-19 campaign.

NU will be led by Tanner Owen. The senior from Parkville, Mo., returns after recording five top-25 finishes last season and leading the team with a 72.86 scoring average. He also tied for 16th at the 2019 Big Ten Championships, tying the mark for the program's best individual finish at the conference tournament. Along with Owen, sophomore starter Tristan Nelko was named to the Big Ten Men's Golfers to Watch List. Nelko competed at the Duke/Rod Myers Invitational as a true freshman and was the 2018 Minnesota Mr. Golf as a high school senior.

Rounding out the Husker starting lineup are Branden Meyer, Mark Foelbaek and Caleb Badura. Meyer, a junior from Gilbert, Ariz., joined the team after a standout sophomore season at South Mountain Community College in Arizona. Meyer was a First Team NJCAA Division II All-American last season and was a finalist for the NJCAA Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award. Foelbaek also comes to Nebraska after a successful stint in the junior college ranks. The junior from Jeliig, Denmark, was a member of the Ranger (Texas) College team and finished the fall 2018 season as GolfStat's No.1 ranked golfer in NJCAA Division I. Badura completed his prep career in Nebraska and returns to the state following one season at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa. The two-time Nebraska Class B High School State Champion will look to build upon a dynamic collegiate debut season in which he won the Great Plains Athletic Conference Tournament Title and was named the Conference Player of the Year.

Nebraska's starting lineup will tee off between 9:09 a.m. and 9:32 a.m. on Saturday morning with Sunday's tee time yet to be determined.
