On the addition of Britt to his name
“It was for my stepfather and when I went back home before fall camp, me and my mom decided to change it. We wanted to do it last year, but we didn’t have much time during the break. We did it when we went home and now it’s official.”

On the challenge Colorado’s receivers will bring
“They’re pretty tough, they know how to play their game and they’re very physical, especially number 2 [Colorado WR Laviska Shenault Jr.] He’s going to come out there and try to break tackles and go up high for every ball. They’re going to try to lay out and put it all on the line, but we have to come out and play our game and Blackshirt defense."

On how Colorado’s receivers rank
“They’re probably at the top. They have different schemes and like I said, they play very physical and everybody plays physical like number 2 [Shenault Jr.] and number 3 (Colorado WR K.D. Nixon) as well, and they are pretty fast."

On how to tackle larger receivers like Laviska Shenault Jr.
“You hit them just like you hit anybody else.”

On Colorado wide receiver Laviska Shenault Jr.
“Coaches went on and on about how he’s their key player and throughout the week we keyed on that, and you have to wrap him up, no boom hits, we have to wrap him up. Just because he’s a physical runner, he’ll fight for those extra yards.”

On what it meant to wear Taylor-Britt on his jersey for the first time
“It felt great. My stepdad couldn’t be at the game, but he was watching with my little brother at home, and I looked at my phone and he sent me a text message saying, ‘It’s on your jersey, it’s on your jersey!’ Just to make him proud because he’s been here most of my whole life and to make him proud, that’s something big for me.”

On his being coached by his stepfather
“He was one of my coaches in city league football when I played for the Montgomery Steelers, and he and my mom had the little love story or whatever. He was one of my coaches in high school at Park Crossing as well.”

On the biggest challenge of moving positions during the game
“I wouldn’t say it’s a big challenge, but it’s a different mindset. At safety you have to call the calls and when you’re at corner you’re looking back for the calls, so you have to be the innovator. You’re the general on defense when you’re at safety, so you have to step your game up a little bit more."

On Nebraska safety Deontai Williams
“That’s our boy. In DB world we are all a family so to see him go down like he did we keep praying and telling him that we’ve got him. Everybody went out there and did their thing and we have to keep that up.”

On having a game under your belt before playing Colorado
“Man, that’s pretty great. We didn’t get that game last year, that game got rained out and it was tough to come in and face Colorado for our first game. We didn’t get to make our mistakes in the first game, we had to make them against CU and that’s something we don’t need to do. We made our mistakes against South Alabama and now we’re good.”

On mistakes he noticed in film
“There was a lot of plays we made mistakes on and we have to fix it. That’s what Monday practice is for. He calls us out on those, and we are grown men at the end of the day, so he lets us know what we need to fix and we have to fix it.”

On the team’s general sense of Colorado
“It’s a target on their head basically. We are going to go out there and play Nebraska football.”

On if he noticed the offense step it up in practice today
“Big time. Both sides of the ball. Like Coach Frost said, the day after a game offense has to step it up big time. Today’s practice looked a lot better than last Wednesday. Monday thru Wednesday are days we need to come out and practice hard. Today, everybody was practicing hard, flying around on defense and making incredible catches on offense. We have to do it right at the beginning of the week, so you’ll be good at the end of the week.”
