Palmer Jr., Watson Jr. to Graduate this Weekend

Lincoln – A pair of Husker men’s basketball standouts are among the 18 student-athletes scheduled to graduate on Saturday at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

James Palmer Jr. and Glynn Watson Jr. will graduate as part UNL’s summer commencement ceremonies. With Saturday’s graduation, all five members of the Huskers’ 2019 senior class now have earned their degree. Isaac Copeland Jr. graduated in May of 2018, while Tanner Borchardt and Johnny Trueblood graduated in May of 2019.

Palmer, who recently earned an invitation to training camp with the Los Angeles Clippers, earns his degree in sociology after a prolific career leading the Huskers to a pair of postseason appearances. A two-time All-Big Ten honoree, Palmer averaged 18.5 points per game during his two-year Husker career, ranking second on NU’s in career scoring average list. He put together a strong senior year, setting school records in points (708), free throws attempted (282), free throws made (215) and minutes played (1,269). He averaged 19.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.4 steals per game to earn all-district and All-Big Ten honors. Earlier this year, he played in the Reese's College All-Star Game and was named to the Portsmouth Invitational All-Tournament team. Off the court, he earned a spot on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in 2017 and was a two-time member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team.

Watson, who recently signed a pro contract to play in Greece, also graduates with a sociology degree from Nebraska. As a Husker, Watson started all four years, setting a school record with 134 games played during his NU career. He scored 1,532 career points as a Husker to rank 11th in program history, while finishing in the top 10 on NU career lists in steals (177, fourth), assists (382, seventh) and 3-pointers (184, fourth). As a senior, he started all 36 games in helping Nebraska reach the NIT for the second straight season, averaging a career-high 13.6 points per game along with 4.1 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game. Off the court, he was a three-time member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship team for his efforts in the community and earned a place on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll on two occasions.
