The Nebraska baseball team (24-18) returns to action this weekend with a three-game non-conference series against Arizona State at Hawks Field.

Several promotions are scheduled, including Alumni Weekend, as former Husker baseball letterwinners will be honored before Friday night’s game, scheduled for 6:32 p.m. (CT) on NET. Friday night also marks the 500th Husker baseball game at Hawks Field and the Joba Chamberlain first pitch and bobblehead giveaway. The first 1,000 fans through the home plate entrance will receive a Chamberlain bobblehead (limit one per fan).

Saturday’s game, set for 2:05 p.m., is “Bark at the Park,” as fans are welcome to bring their dogs to the game. The giveaway is 500 GBR dog collars. Sunday’s series finale is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. Fans can purchase tickets for this weekend by visiting Huskers.com/tickets or by calling 1-800-8-BIGRED.

Last Time Out
The Huskers won 1-of-3 at Northwestern in Evanston, Ill., last weekend. The Wildcats won the first two games by scores of 4-2 and 10-2 before Nebraska won Monday’s finale, 6-4. 

Next Up
The Huskers conclude the regular season next weekend against Michigan at Hawks Field. The three-game series begins Thursday, May 16 at 7:30 p.m. (CT). Friday’s game is scheduled for 8 p.m., and Saturday’s match-up, preceded by the Senior Day ceremony, will start at 2 p.m. All three games will be televised on the Big Ten Network.

Scouting the Arizona State Sun Devils

• Arizona State leads the all-time series against Nebraska, 6-3, dating back to the first meeting between the schools in 1985. The two teams last met on June 3, 2007 in the NCAA Tempe Regional, as ASU won, 19-7.

• Nebraska’s first-ever win in a College World Series game was against Arizona State on June 17, 2005, when the Huskers defeated the Sun Devils, 5-3, at Rosenblatt Stadium.

• Arizona State is 34-12 this season with a 14-10 record in Pac-12 play. The Sun Devils opened 2019 on a 21-game winning streak. Since that time, ASU is 13-12.

• The Sun Devils are ranked 36th in the latest RPI, released by the NCAA this week. ASU is ranked by several other polls, including Collegiate Baseball (17th), Baseball America (20th), the NCBWA (22nd) and the USA Today/Coaches Poll (23rd).

• Head Coach Tracy Smith is 151-122 in his fifth season at Arizona State. He holds an overall record of 755-579 in his 23rd year. Smith is assisted by Ben Greenspan, Mike Cather and Michael Earley.

• Players to Watch

  • No. 4 Hunter Bishop (Junior OF): Leads the team in batting average (.357), home runs (21), RBIs (58) and runs scored (60)
  • No. 18 Trevor Hauver (Sophomore OF): Batting .352 with 11 home runs and a team-high 69 hits and 14 doubles
  • No. 20 Spencer Torkelson (Sophomore INF): Hitting .349 with 68 hits, 13 doubles and 17 home runs

Big Ten Network to Televise Michigan Series

• All three games of the baseball series between Nebraska and Michigan at Hawks Field, May 16-18, will be televised on the Big Ten Network as the TV wildcard selections for the final weekend of the regular season. As a result, the start times for the first two games of the series will be changed from the originally scheduled times.

• The series opener on Thursday, May 16 will begin at 7:30 p.m. (CT). The game on Friday, May 17 will start at 8 p.m. (CT). The regular-season finale between the Huskers and Wolverines is still scheduled for Saturday, May 18 at 2 p.m. (CT).

Huskers Third in Big Ten Standings, 44th in RPI

• In Big Ten play, the Huskers are 13-8 (.619 winning percentage), which puts them in third place in the league standings.

• Michigan leads the Big Ten with a 14-3 record (.824), while Indiana is in second with a 12-6 mark (.667). Iowa and Minnesota are tied for fourth at 11-7 (.611). The top eight teams make the Big Ten Tournament.

• In the RPI, Nebraska has the fourth-best ranking among Big Ten teams with the No. 44 spot. No. 19 Illinois, No. 30 Indiana and No. 38 Michigan are ahead of the Huskers, while No. 58 Iowa and No. 72 Minnesota are behind Nebraska in the RPI.

• The Huskers wrap up their Big Ten schedule at home next weekend against Michigan, May 16-18.

• Nebraska, in its eighth season as a member of the Big Ten, finished in the top two of the regular-season standings in four of its first six seasons in the conference before finishing 10th in 2018. NU won the regular-season crown in 2017 after finishing second in 2013, 2014 and 2016.
