Maineville, Ohio - Kate Smith led Nebraska with a one-over-par 73 to conclude the women's golf team's season at the 2019 Big Ten Championship at TPC River's Bend on Sunday.
Smith, a junior from Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, and freshman Megan Whittaker (Elkhorn, Nebraska) tied for 51st individually to lead the Huskers in the tournament, which was shortened to just two rounds after Saturday's second round was canceled because of weather.
Whittaker shot a 77 on Sunday after opening the tournament on Friday with a 75. Smith and Whittaker both finished at eight-over-par 152 over 36 holes.
Junior Haley Thiele (Wahoo, Nebraska) carded Nebraska's best round of the tournament with a one-under-par 71 on Sunday to finish in a tie for 66th at 155, one stroke behind her sister Hannah, who tied for 62nd at 154 (79-75).
As a team, Nebraska put together a 296 (+8) in the six-count-four format to finish in 13th place overall at 609 after struggling to a 313 in the opening round. Iowa finished 14th at 612.
Ohio State captured the team title with a seven-under-par 281 Sunday to finish at 575 (-1) over two rounds. The Buckeyes held Illinois, Indiana and Purdue, which finished in a three-way tie for second at 578.
OSU's Nikolette Schroeder (72-66-138) and Purdue's Melati Putri (71-67-138) shared medalist honors for the tournament.
The NCAA Women's Golf Championships selection show will air on the Golf Channel on Wednesday beginning at 3:30 p.m. (CT).
