The Nebraska track and field athletes split up and competed at two meets on Thursday, with one meet in California and one in Kansas.
The Big Red had one addition to the NU top-10 list. Judi Jones competed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Bryan Clay Invitational and finished with a PR time of 10:30.69, good for No. 6 all-time in the event at Nebraska.
Erika Freyhof ran in the 5,000 meters in the early morning hours of Friday and finished seventh in her section with a personal-best time of 16:38.71, shaving more than 30 seconds off her previous best.
"I am very pleased how Erika (Freyhof) raced, coming up from the back of the pack towards the front," said Nebraska Distance Coach David Harris. "She has a chance to break into the Nebraska top-10 very soon."
Ryan Martins was in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase and ran a time of 9:36.83.
"Conditions were very tough for our two steeplers. It was nearly 90 degrees when they ran and Judi (Jones) ran through the heat well for a top-10 time and broke her own PR. She has some more time to shave off this year in better conditions."
Madi Scholl wrapped up the heptathlon at the Kansas Relays and finished in seventh place with 4,389 points. Scholl had a leap of 16-3 3/4 (4.97m) in the long jump, a throw of 87-10 (26.77m) in the javelin and a time of 2:34.43 in the 800 meters.
Competition continues Friday with the Huskers competing at the Kansas Relays, Bryan Clay Invitational and Beach Invitational. Live results for all meets can be followed on Huskers.com
