Seay, Conner Earn First-Team All-America Honors

The Nebraska track and field team finished the indoor season at the NCAA Indoor Championships at the Birmingham Crossplex in Birmingham, Alabama on Saturday. Three Huskers earned All-America honors, including two first-team selections. 

Jared Seay finished in fourth place in the heptathlon to earn first-team All-America honors. Seay scored 5,847 points, the second-best mark in Nebraska school history. Seay set a personal best in the pole vault with a clearance of 15-11 1/4 (4.86m), and he ran 8.29 in the 60-meter hurdles and 2:57.51 in the 1,000 meters. The Ankeny, Iowa native recorded the best NCAA Championships finish by a Husker heptathlete since Bjorn Barrefors finished fourth in 2012. 

Mayson Conner took seventh place in the high jump to secure first-team All-America honors as well. The McCool Junction native matched his personal best of 7-3 3/4 (2.23m), which he set to win the Big Ten title, to wrap up his indoor season as the top freshman in the nation.

Senior Angela Mercurio earned second-team All-America honors in the triple jump for the second indoor season in a row, finishing in ninth place. The Kitchener, Ontario native finished her Husker career with a jump of 42-8 3/4 (13.02m) on her final attempt, which put her just one spot outside the top eight who earned first-team All-America honors. Mercurio, the Big Ten champion in the event who completed her outdoor eligibility last year, was a three-time All-American in her NU career and ranks No. 6 on NU's indoor triple jump chart.

In the team standings, the Husker men scored seven points and tied for 35th.
