Huskers Upset #18 Golden Gophers, 4-3

Lincoln -- The Nebraska men's tennis team (9-9, 1-2 Big Ten) upset the No. 18 Minnesota Golden Gophers (12-3, 1-2 Big Ten), 4-3, on Sunday at the Dillon Tennis Center for the Huskers' first ranked win since April 17, 2016 -- when it beat No. 59 Purdue -- and first victory over a top-25 opponent since March 13, 2010, when it knocked off No. 23 BYU. 

The Huskers won doubles play for the seventh time this season before notching three singles victories at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 5 to clinch the match at 4-3.  

Senior Toby Boyer and freshman William Gleason quickly knocked off No. 73 Justyn Levin/Josip Krstanovic, 6-1, at No. 1 before junior Micah Klousia and freshman Victor Moreno Lozano beat Eli Ogilvy/Vlad Lobak, 6-3, at No. 2 to clinch the doubles point for Nebraska.

Gleason won his third straight at the No. 3 spot with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Jackson Allen, but Marino Alpeza defeated Victor Moreno at No. 4 in straight sets to bring Nebraska's lead down to 2-1.

Boyer earned his fourth win over a ranked opponent this season -- for a 13-2 spring record -- with a 7-6 (1), 6-4 upset over No. 47 Jospi Krstanovic at the No. 1 position. 

Vlad Lobak topped Chris Dean, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 6 as Minnesota trailed 3-2 with two matches left at this point. 

Sophomore Isaac Nortey dropped the first set but came back in emphatic fashion to clinch the match at 4-2 for Nebraska with a 5-7, 6-3, 7-5 victory over Eli Ogilvy at No. 5. 

Klousia then fell short to Stefan Milicevic, 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 in a hard-fought match at No. 2.

Nebraska will travel to Illinois this weekend to face off with the No. 13 Fighting Illini on Saturday, March 30, before clashing with Northwestern on Sunday, March 30 -- both matches will start at Noon CT.
