Denver, Colo. -- Nebraska finished second in a quad meet in Denver, Colo. on Sunday afternoon with a final score of 196.225. NU fell to No. 6 Denver, who posted a team score of 197.675 to take first place in the event. No. 21 Arizona State finished third with a score of 194.825 and Pittsburgh rounded out the group of four with a score of 194.200.
NU improves to 10-5 on the season and 6-3 in Big Ten competition.
Rotation One
Nebraska started the afternoon on uneven bars. Sienna Crouse led the way for the Huskers with a score of 9.90. Megan Verceles Carr and Taylor Houchin both finished their routines with scores of 9.825, while Adnerys De Jesus scored a 9.70 on the event. Kelli Chung finished with a score of 9.575 and Sarah Hargrove rounded out Nebraska with a score of 9.125 due to a fall.
On vault, Denver finished with a team score of 49.275. The Huskers finished the first rotation in second place with a team score of 48.825. Pittsburgh opened the meet on floor exercise with a team score of 48.225. On balance beam, Arizona State combined for a team score of 48.050.
Rotation Two
Moving to balance beam, the Huskers held onto second place with a solid performance in the second rotation. A score of 9.90 for Houchin and a 9.875 from Sierra Hassel helped Nebraska reach a team score of 49.000. Crouse finished her routine for a score of 9.80, while Catelyn Orel scored a 9.775 on the event. Megan Schweihofer scored a 9.65, and Makayla Curtis scored a 9.10 due to a fall.
Denver increased its lead on the rest of the field with a team score of 49.475 on uneven bars, which increased the Pioneers running score to 98.750. After the second rotation, Nebraska remained in second place with a running score of 97.825. Pittsburgh finished the second rotation in third with a score of 48.675 on vault and a running score of 96.900, while Arizona State finished on the floor with a score of 48.775 and a running score of 96.825.
Rotation Three
In the third rotation, Nebraska found itself on the floor exercise. Crouse and Hassel led the way for NU with scores of 9.90. De Jesus set a career high on the event with a score of 9.85, while Orel scored a 9.775 on the event. Schweihofer scored a 9.75, and Abby Johnston rounded the Huskers out with a score of 9.725.
On balance beam, Denver furthered itself from the rest of the field with a team score of 49.450 and a running score of 148.200. Nebraska maintained second place with a running score of 147.000. Arizona State vaulted its way to a team score of 48.900 and a running score of 145.725, while Pittsburgh fell to fourth place with a team score of 48.425 on bars and a running score of 145.325.
Rotation Four
Nebraska finished its night on vault and looked to capture the lead in the quad meet. Crouse and Houchin both scored team highs of 9.90, while De Jesus trailed behind them with a score of 9.85. Verceles Carr and Anika Dujakovich finished with scores of 9.80 and 9.775 respectively. Kaylee Quinn rounded the Huskers out with a score of 9.55.
Denver took first place in the quad meet, finishing its night on floor with a team score of 49.475 and a final score of 197.675. Nebraska finished the fourth rotation with a vault team score of 49.225 and a final score of 196.225, which landed the Huskers in second place. Arizona State finished its night with an uneven bars score of 49.100 and a final score of 194.825. Pittsburgh rounded out the field of four with a beam score of 48.875 and a final score of 194.200.
The Huskers will return to action at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on Saturday, March 16 for the annual Masters Classic. The Huskers will take on Boise State, Kentucky and Illinois State and the meet will begin at 7 p.m.
