Ann Arbor, Mich. -- The No. 13 Nebraska women's gymnastics team (3-2, 2-1 Big Ten) was defeated by No. 10 Michigan 196.500-195.700.
After posting a season high on vault in the second rotation, Michigan pulled away in the third and fourth rotation to ultimately take the victory. Senior Sienna Crouse took home the vault event title after hitting with a score of 9.95, a new season high. Michigan would go on to win the rest of the event titles.
Rotation One
Beginning on bars, Crouse had the strongest finish for the Huskers hitting with a season high 9.90. Taylor Houchin was not far behind her posting a score of 9.825. Adnerys De Jesus and Megan Verceles Carr ended with a score of 9.75, while freshman Abby Johnston hit with a score of 9.725. Sarah Hargrove rounded out the Huskers with a score of 9.60.
On vault, Abby Brenner and Olivia Karas led the way for Michigan with scores of 9.85 and 9.80, respectively. Natalie Wojcik, finished with a score of 9.325 due to a fall. After one rotation, the Huskers led the Wolverines 48.950-48.775.
Rotation Two
Moving onto vault, Crouse once again had the strongest finish going for a new season high 9.95, while De Jesus bests her career high for a new one with a score of 9.925. Houchin also posted a new season high of 9.90. Anika Dujakovich ties her career and season high with a score of 9.85. Kaylee Quinn and Makayla Curtis round out the Huskers with scores of 9.75 and 9.725, respectively.
On bars, Michigan came out swinging. Wojcik finished with a score of 9.925, while all other Wolverines finished with scores of 9.80 or better on the event. After two rotations, the Huskers stayed ahead of Michigan 98.325-98.075 thanks to a season high team score of 49.375 on vault.
Rotation Three
Next onto floor, Crouse, De Jesus and Megan Schweihofer all hit with scores of 9.825, tying a career high for De Jesus. Sierra Hassel finished with a score of 9.775. Houchin and Johnston round out the Huskers with scores of 9.40 and 9.15, due to stumbles.
on beam, Michigan took over the lead thanks in part to Wojcik's 9.875. Mariani and Farley both posted scores of 9.85 and 9.825, respectively. The Wolverines combine for a team score of 49.125 on beam, while the Huskers finish with a team score of 48.650. Michigan led Nebraska going into the final rotation 147.200-146.975.
Rotation Four
On beam, Schweihofer and Houchin led the Huskers both with scores of 9.85. Crouse and Hargrove both finish with 9.70s and Curtis and Hassel round out the Huskers with scores of 9.60 and 9.25, respectively.
On floor, Karas led the way for the Wolverines hitting with a score of 9.95. Wojcik finished with a score of 9.90. Michigan combined for a team score of 49.300 on floor to seal the victory for the Wolverines. Nebraska finished with a team score of 48.725 on beam. Michigan defeats Nebraska 196.500-195.700.
In the all-around for Nebraska, Crouse finished with a season high 39.375 and Houchin finished with a score of 38.975. For Michigan, Karas ended with a score of 39.400 and Wojcik ended the meet with a score of 39.025.
Nebraska will return to action on Saturday Feb. 9 to continue Big Ten competition against Minnesota at the Bob Devaney Sports Center at 5 p.m. CT with national television coverage provided by ESPNU.
